The Importanceof PhysicalVariability inCardio Exercise
Are you a cardio junkie? Everyoneseems to think that "cardio" is the bestway to get in shape and lose body fat.I'm going to show you with this articlewhy I disagree! It is quite common to hear fitness pros, doctors, and other health professionalsprescribe low to moderate intensityaerobic training (cardio) to people whoare trying to prevent heart disease or lose weight. Most often, therecommendations go something likethis:"Perform 30-60 minutes of steadypace cardio 3-5 times/weekmaintaining your heart rate at amoderate level"

Before you just give in to this popular belief and become the “hamster on thewheel” doing endless hours of boringcardio exercise, I’d like you to consider some recent scientific research thatindicates that steady pace endurancecardio work may not be all it’s crackedup to be. First, realize that our bodies aredesigned to perform physical activity inbursts of exertion followed byrecovery, or stop-and-go movementinstead of steady state movement.Recent research is suggesting thatphysical variability is one of the mostimportant aspects to consider in your training.

This tendency can be seen throughoutnature as all animals demonstratestop-and-go motion instead of steadystate motion. In fact, humans are the only creaturesin nature that attempt to do“endurance” type physical activities. Most competitive sports (with theexception of endurance running or cycling) are also based on stop-and-gomovement or short bursts of exertionfollowed by recovery.
