Christmas is the most wonderful time of the yearfor most of us and I would even hope for all of us.There is so much to be thankful for and it truly is atime of faith, family and friends. We tend to be busyat this time of the year and that certainly is true of Eastmont. The Christmas Festival was a big hit with ourchurch and the community. “Once Upon a Time - AChildren’s Christmas” saw more non-Eastmontpeople here and was an opportunity to reach parentsthrough their children. Our church-wide Christmasdinner was delicious and you, our members, provided more desserts than we could possibly eat. This Sunday evening will be the orchestra Christmascelebration and then our Christmas eve service.Christmas stirs up memories as well as thesounds, smells, tastes, sights and scenes of thisseason. From dreaming of a white Christmas, tostockings hung by the fireplace and a freshly cutChristmas tree trimmed with colorful lights andornaments. There is Santa and his eight tinyreindeer, children’s laughter and wide-eyedexpressions, Christmas cards, choirs singing, andcarolers at the door. There is time with family andfriends sharing good food and fellowship. But Christmas is so much more than this. Theapostle John said it best when the Holy Spiritinspired him to write these words: “In the beginningwas the Word, and the Word was with God, and theWord was God. And the Word was with God in thebeginning. All things were made by Him. WithoutHim nothing was made that has been made. In Himwas life, and that life was the light of men. TheLight shines in the darkness, but the darkness doesnot comprehend. The Word became flesh and madehis dwelling among us.” God became man to die forall men. This is the true meaning of Christmas. Were it not for this true miracle then all thememories, sounds, sights, scenes, smells, tastes…would not exist. There would be no giving andreceiving of gifts, no Christmas, no festivals, nochildren’s Christmas program or orchestra playing,no Christmas eve service...no Eastmont. Rememberthe true reason for the season and lets put Him at thetop of our Christmas lists. A generous gift to ourLottie Moon Christmas offering would be a greatplace to begin. On behalf of Bro. Mike, the ministers, supportstaff and all our families we pray that you, ourEastmont family might have a wonderful and blessedChristmas!
