of St.Petersburg translated it from Tibetaninto Russian
in
April 1869
followedby
the
German translation
of
the text by Schiefneralso
published
from St.
Petersburg
inOctober of the same year. In view of the
profound
imp

rtance
of
the
work
forunderstanding Indianhistoryin general
andof
the history
of
Buddhisminparticular,
modem
scholars
have
extensively usingspecially Schiefner's German translation of the
History
for
decades
and
this for variedpurposes.Dr.Niharranjan
