Mayor Mark A. Smith announced that the Bayonne RecreationDivision has been awarded a grant in the amount of $8,851 fromthe Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF). The grant will assist the
effort to support the established youth league and expand itssoftball program by providing funds for equipment and theconstruction of a batting tunnel.
The City of Bayonne manages the girls’ softball program and
provides fields and equipment for the Bayonne Little League thatserves over 800 players. To accommodate the increasing demandfor its programs, the City will add 20 participants to the softballprogram in 2013 and provide more practice time for its youthplayers by constructing a batting cage.
Mayor Smith said, “The City of Bayonne would like to thank the
Baseball Tomorrow Fund for its generosity to our community. Thegrant will enable us to improve our recreational programs for theyoung people of Bayonne. I look forward to seeing the neweq
uipment and the batting tunnel in action.”

BTF is designed to promote the growth of youthbaseball and softball throughout the world by awarding grants tosupport field renovation and construction projects, equipment anduniform purchases, coaches training material, and other selectedprogram expenses. Since its formation by MLB and the MLBPA in1999, BTF has awarded over 665 grants totaling more than $23million to non-profit and tax-exempt organizations in the U.S.,Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, andAsia. Approximately 325,000 youth players have benefited fromprograms and facilities supported by the fund. BTF also facilitatesleague-wide initiatives including the collection and distribution of new and gently used equipment to organizations in need as well asfield maintenance education clinics.
