LOBSTERS IDENTIFICATION
 
General morphology of Lobsters
Body consists of two main parts
a)
Cephalothorax with its appendages.
b)
 Abdomen with its appendages.
Cephalothorax consists of 14 segments
 –
(6cephalon and 8 thorax)
a)
Somite 1
 –
ophthalmic somite, carries the eyes,usually movable and consists of a stalk.
b)
Somite 2
 –
antennular spine carries antennules
c)
Somite 3
 –
antennal somite, carries the antennae
d)
Somite 4 to 9
 –
carry mouth parts.
e)
Somite 10 to 14
 –
carry 5 pairs of Periopods.
 
 Abdomen consists of 6 segments (15 to 20)
Dorsal part
 –
tergite
Ventral part
 –
sternite
Lateral part
 –
pleura
From 15 to 19
 –
5 pairs of pleopods are there.
Somite 20 bears the tailfan, which consists of apair of uropods and unpaired telson.
