Un grand merci aux partenaires mondiaux du World Cleanup 2012 !

Sometimes a cleanup is not just a cleanup!

Your cleanup action can have wider impact and long term effect in the society, laying good grounds for future steps.

With a simple action you can:

Bring together the whole society, give the civil society a real boost, find partners for future action, raise general awareness and educate the society, reach a new social agreement.

1. Bringing together different groups in the society

Finding one common goal to work on together and create a real positive experience of cooperation. You need a good message that speaks to different groups and brings them together. The more diverse the organizing team itself, the better they will be in bringing together diverse groups.

Cooperation between different: - Ethnic groups - Religious groups - Age groups - Social classes Example: Bosnia&Herzegovina

2. Giving civil society a real boost

Empowering existing community leaders and bringing on new young leaders to act for public good. Offering skilled and professional people a way to implement their skills for public good as volunteers. Activating the whole society to be a participant in creating the necessary changes. Engaging as much volunteers as possible into the cleanup action team, but making sure to have a good leadership and a good plan. Example: Slovenia

3. Finding good partners for future actions

During the preparation time you can build partnerships based on common goals. Asking for real support, not money in services, knowledge, communication, skilled people, tools - to find more opportunities and create lasting bonds. Public organisations, government, local municipalities and officials Private sector, enterprises NGOs, civic groups Volunteers Media!

4. Awareness raising for all the groups in the society

Use the cleanup campaign to raise the issues regarding present situation, and publicly propose improvements in waste management. Inform the public about the lifestyle choices etc. Establish a good partnership with media channels and journalists to be able to reach large audiences. Working with: Organizations Media Opinion leaders Schools & Universities Civic groups

5. Make it big to reach new social agreement

To make the cleanup truly effective and to have a lasting impact on peoples attitudes you need to set large goals for your cleanup regarding participation. By engaging 4% of the population to the cleanup you can reach a new social agreement and level of awareness. Use opinion leaders, actors, musicians in the campaign. Ask for free advertising space from the media channels. Raise relevant issues and provoke discussions in media. Inform the public about your action goals and process.

Example: Estonia

6. Educating the public and youth

Use the cleanup and the campaign to educate people about the waste recycling opportunities, about the impacts of their consumer behaviour and choices. Special emphasis on young people and children - work with schools and universities to engage them in the action. Develop study programmes in partner with school. Children create a bridge to their parents. Media loves kids so engaging them in action also gives you more visibility. Example: Brazil, Estonia
