Introduction
Coral Reef Conservation Program

The AWARE \u2013 Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course allows PADI Instruc-
tors and Assistant Instructors to inform divers and nondivers about the plight
of the world\u2019s coral reefs. The course describes how coral reefs function and
why they are so important. It also reviews why many reefs are in serious
trouble and what individuals can do to prevent further decline.

Participants begin the course by reading Chapter Four of theA . W. A . R . E
\u2013 Our World, Our Water manual (if available in a language they understand.)

They also watch the Protect the Living Reef video \u2013 diver or snorkler version
either independently or with their instructor. Learning continues with an
instructor-led knowledge development session guided by colorful, photo-\ufb01lled
lesson guides. By then completing and reviewing the program\u2019s Knowledge
Review, participants may earn the AWARE \u2013 Coral Reef Conservation Specialty
certi\ufb01cation.
