Mr. Garcia has come back from the supermarket and is putting away the things he bought. Look at the picture and answer the questions about Mr. Garcias groceries. Where the answers are given, make up questions to go with them. The first three are done for you. 1. Is there any corn? 2. Is there any tuna fish? 3. Is there any lettuce? 4. Is there any orange juice? 5. Is there any sugar? 6. Is there any soap? 7. Is there any bread? 8. Is there any bacon? 9. Is there any ketchup? 10. Is there any salad oil? 11. Is there any cereal? 12. Is there any toothpaste? 13. Is there any cake? 14. 15. 16. How much soup is there? 17. How much rice is there? 18. How much butter is there?
SKILL OBJECTIVE: Asking/answering quantity questions with non-count nouns. Write: Is there any ...? How much ... is there? Teach the adverbs of quantity: a lot, quite a lot, some, a little, none/any. Have students ask/answer questions about the picture. Draw a 1/4 filled ketchup bottle, a stack of soap, two eggs, and ten oranges. Ask, How much ketchup/soap is there? How many eggs/oranges are there? (a little, a lot; a few, many) Note the different adverbs used with count vs. non-count nouns.
