Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. and STOP-DWI Administrator Lt. Kerry B. Thompson cordially invite you to attend a press conference announcing the results of aMulti County STOP-DWI Blanket Patrol initiative. The press conference is scheduled to beheld on Tuesday December 18, 2012 at the Albany County Courthouse - Rotunda, AlbanyNY 12207 and will begin promptly at 11:00AM. This initiative consisted of Law Enforcement from Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady,Rensselaer, Greene and Schoharie counties joining forces, utilizing stationary sobrietycheck points and roving DWI patrols. The primary purpose of a Sobriety Checkpoint is todeter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our communityare senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This most recentinitiative was simply an effort to reduce those tragedies and to educate the public thatpolice agencies in the capital region take the crime of impaired driving very serious.Checkpoints are typically placed at locations that provide the greatest opportunity fordeterring impaired driving while providing the greatest safety for the public and officers.“We decided to partner together with the surrounding counties and selected variouslocations along the county lines, “Sheriff Apple said. Is it really worth it? There are somany other options available”. With the Holiday season in full swing, officials urge thepublic to plan ahead before going out and utilize a designated driver or call a taxi. You are invited to help us spread the word and to raise public awareness on thisimportant public safety issue. Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr., Albany County Executive DanielP. McCoy, Albany County District Attorney David Soares, Schoharie County Sheriff Anthony Desmond, Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino and representatives fromarea Law Enforcement will all be on hand to answer any questions that you might have.
