Analysis of A Thriller Opening Sequence:
The Bourne Ultimatum
The start of the sequence explains what has happened in the previousfilms; the loss of his identity which had been stolen, injured, howhis loved ones throughout the films have been murdered, his pastdestroyed and now people are set to kill him! This opening sequence is very short and very detailed to ensure youget a good understanding of the fill. As the sequence starts off yousee Jason Bourne walking injured away down an underground/trainstation escaping police, or so it seems. He then boards the trainbut jumps off in order to lose the police. Further on in thesequence Bourne manages to escape the police and he attempts tofirst aid his arm after an bloody injury. As he is aiding himself, aRussian officer enters the room in which Bourne is armed and readyto kill. Bourne talks to him and says a line which is rememberedthrough the film; ' My argument is not with you'.. Throughout theend of the sequence a flashback of something that happened to himplays, which brings back memories that he has lost
 Mise En Scene
- It highlights the theme running throughout and makesit simple to relate to. It is action/thriller therefore it is quitea dark setting and rather dull. This conveys the mystery within theopening sequence which could lead onto further in the film.Everything within the shots of the opening sequence are eithermysterious or have something to with the plot i.e passports, gunsetc..
The sound
- in the sequence is non-diegetic, it is being played foreffects, to create tension and to build up fear. It is not drowningin sound it is just there running quietly in the background. The mainsound is Jason Bourne himself, the characters dialogue and the carsetc.
