"Taming the Fire Within - Life After
offered by WWE®.Donated by author Dr. Anne Freund, this
"no psychobabble” handbook
takes you inside the mind and experiences of combat warriorsto offer insight and coping techniques to deal with natural
Post-Combat Reactions.
New York, NY (Dec. 18, 2012)
Many of our soldiers go from thefront lines to their front yards with little time or training to transitionback into civilian life after experiencing the terrors of war. Tragically,
many of our bravest warriors haven’t been prepared to distinguish
between clinical PTSD and normal reactions they should expect to
experience. Fearing the stigma of a psychological “disorder
” and too
proud or too scared to reach out, they suffer in silence.
In “Taming the Fire Within: Life After
War,” Dr. Freund speaks
conversationally to combat veterans of all eras explaining the naturalemotional and behavioral reactions to the many stressors of war.Used by PTSD treatment programs across the country, this bookfocuses on common and expected responses to combat which Dr.
Freund classifies as “Post
Combat Reactions,” as opposed to "PostTraumatic Stress Disorder.” Knowing how challenging it is for soldiers
to share their feelings, especially if the stigma of PTSD is looming intheir minds, Dr. Freund wants to help warriors and their families learnhow to identify and deal with natural reactions to combat, so they caneffectively process the intense emotions every combat soldier isburdened with."Nobody walks away from combat unscathed," Freund said. "The term 'disorder' often conveys a stigmathat fosters guilt, shame, confusion and the inability to communicate with others who can relate and helpthem. We want veterans to realize that they are not alone. When combat is over, the experiences stillcontinue. It's time to break the silence so the healing can begin."To help address these challenges, WWE is offering combat vets and their families the opportunity to
