MESSAGEFROM THE
PRESIDENT
Hello, I would like to start off by thanking our 2008 OTF President,Todd Voss, and all the board members for their time, effort, and visionthey have put into the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation not only this year, but the past several years in which a number of them have servedon the board. In particular, I would like to recognize Mark Jordan andMark Grunkemeyer, who are leaving the board after many years ofservice. They both have done a tremendous job in several areas ofOTF and we are a better place because of all of their efforts.I would like to thank all of those who attended the conference andshow this past year. We had an increase in attendees from theprevious year and we hope this trend continues, even with thesedifcult economic times. You can be assured that OTF is cognizantof these economic challenges and will give you the best educationand show for your value. While we are not as large as other NationalConferences and Shows, we can guarantee you our education andoverall trade show is well worth the investment and time.I would like to thank you the members, vendors and the companiesthat support and sponsor several of our events. Without all of you,OTF would not be possible.I want to thank the Ohio State University and in particular, the OSU TurfTeam. These individuals give us a great deal of time and effort, andprovide several of the seminars and educational tracks throughoutthe season. Additionally, thanks to Matt Williams and the individualswho run the Research Facility. Finally, special thanks to our Directorof Education, Dr. John Street and Executive Director, Kevin Thompsonof Ofnger Management. As you are all aware, 2008 has been headlined by the economy, orthe lack of. I am certain every agency, company, or institution thatyou manage or are involved with has been affected in some way,and OTF has been part of the same economic downturn as everyone.

You can be assured that the board of directors is doing their best toensure that the funds that we have are being used as prudently aspossible, and we will continue to use forward and proactive thinkingin the years to come to ensure that we remain stable during thesedifcult economic times. While the conference and show is one of the best regionalconferences, if not the best conference in the country, we areconstantly looking for attendee and vendor feedback so the showcan evolve into the best it can be each year. From time to timeyou will see changes in the show and rest assured that we haveresearched and have thoroughly gone over all options beforemaking any changes. We hope that you agree with us that thesechanges are always for the best, and will help keep OTF on thecutting edge of the Turfgrass Conference and Shows.Shortly, you will be seeing the release of the Economic ImpactSurvey that the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation funded through the2008 season. This was a large undertaking, and without alliedchapters and other organization’s support, we would be unable toput this Economic Impact Study together. Please take time to readand pass this along to your employers so they understand what acommitment this industry has to the state of Ohio and the overallagricultural development. Finally, I would like to recognize some of the individuals that havehelped me progress in the turfgrass industry since my graduation fromOSU/ATI in 1987. These past Superintendents who I have worked forinclude; Dennis Krueger (Briarwood G.C.), Bill Risch (Groveport C.C.),Greg Goedde (Moundbuilders C.C.), and Charlie Engster (Blue AshG.C.). Each of these individuals helped in different facets of my careerand gave me the tools, resources and understanding of OTF and howimportant it is to support the Green Industry.I would also like to thank my current employer, The City of Blue Ash,for their commitment and support during the past several years as anOTF board member and this current year as OTF President.Good luck as we head into the spring and summer months.Dan Walter, 2009 OTF President
