31 dialogue that may yield valuable insights into where the2 country should go in a number of key areas.3 Before I turn the microphone over to Chairman4 Majoras, I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude5 to the stellar group of moderators and speakers who have6 contributed their time, talents and expertise so7 generously to this conference. I also want to thank all8 of my FTC colleagues who worked so hard to get ready for9 this week. Despite your very busy schedules, you all10 gave outstandingly of your time to organize the energy11 conference and to work with our moderators and12 panelists.13 It is now my privilege to introduce Federal14 Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras, whose15 inspiration was the spark for this conference. With her16 strong interest in energy policy issues, and her17 dedication to continuing the FTC's historic function of18 exploring issues of significance to competition and19 consumers, the Chairman recognized that the Commission20 could use a conference such as this to allow a broad21 range of groups and individuals with a stake in U.S.22 energy policy to share information in one open forum.23 As she stated when the FTC announced this24 conference, few issues are more important to American25 consumers and businesses than the decisions being madeFor The Record, Inc.(301) 870-8025 - www.ftrinc.net - (800) 921-5555
