McDuffie Tapped as Chair Pro Tempore and Chair of the Committee on Government Operations in Next Council Period Washington, DC Yesterday, Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie was announced as the next chair of the Committee on Government Operations and Chair Pro Tempore, pending the Council vote, to take effect January 2, 2013. "I am very honored and looking forward to these new opportunities," said McDuffie. "When I ran for office, one of the promises that I made was to make certain that the residents of our city had an accountable government. This committee will allow me to enhance transparency in the District of Columbia and restore trust in our government. The committee is responsible for legislation and oversight related to elections; campaign finance; general services; personnel, including employee appeals and general administration of the government of the District of Columbia; maintenance of public buildings; property management, including the declaration of government property as no longer required for public purposes; grants management; government procurement; and matters relating to the general operation and services of the government. Furthermore, the committee oversees executive governmental agencies, such as the Department of General Services, the Department of Human Resources, the Office of the City Administrator, the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Office of Risk Management. During the next Council session I look forward to tackling some of the most pressing issues, like government ethics and campaign finance reform, continued McDuffie. Councilmember McDuffie will also serve as a member of the Committee on Workforce and Community Affairs, the Committee on Economic Development, the Committee on Human Services, and the Committee on Transportation and the Environment. ###
