Description

This is an excerpt from Succour Magazine #4 - The Obscene

Check out www.succour.org for full details and how to contribute.

In The Obscene, a collection of the UK’s best emerging writers examine the notion of obscenity from a dazzling variety of angles.

The writings in this issue challenge the notion that obscenity can have any fixed definition, whilst presenting the case that literature itself demands the obscene, and that obscenity is an essential quality of literary writing.

In The Obscene Matt Thorne, whose novel Cherry was nominated for the 2006 Booker Prize, takes a look under the skin of sadomasochistic lust, in a story that was judged too deemed too extreme for The Erotic Review. The issue also features work from Cathi Unsworth, chronicler of London’s unheard voices, and David L. Hayles, one of the funniest writers working in the UK today

Very disappointing. The BritLIt scene is crying out for a publication of this type, but really: is this the best writing they can find?

This is a terrific magazine! I really enjoyed "Tusks". I'd love to read the whole thing.
