Bagongon, Christian K. RS20- EDBReflection paper “Why do people not succeed in being happy?”
We have different religions, living in different parts of the world, like different things, have different educations, but one thing in common to all of us is that we all want to be happy. No exceptions. We all work hard and try to succeed, fail and try again. Even how hard we try, we often fail to succeed.I often hear people say “I will be happy when I own a house and lot”, “I will behappy when I will be rich”. What really happens in reality is that we postpone our happiness for an uncertain period of time. We truly believe that while we are sitting at home, watching TV shows and eat whatever we want or something is going to comealong, knock on our door and say “hey, you won the lotto price!” Sounds rather unrealistic, but a lot of us still wait for a miracle to fall into our head and make ushappy. And until this time will happens we refuse to be happy. The truth is if we are not happy at this moment we will never likely to be, nomatter what happens. Even if we would possess all those we wish for, we would still be unhappy. We may enjoy it for a few days or months and even years; we would havea temporary sense of fulfillment. Material things do not contain an iota of happiness. We want better things for ourselves, we are selfish human beings after all and this is perfectly normal. We should never stop trying to improve our lives and relationships.
