A Ride Into Jerusalem
To the Teacher
: Begin your planning and preparation with prayer. A letter has been provided for you to send home with the children to share withtheir parents what is happening in Sunday school, and for review at home. Arrive early to set things up, relax, breathe, take a moment in prayer, andbe present when parents arrive with their children.
Teacher Preparation
: Read Mark 11:1-11, and meditate on this Scripturepassage. Think about how this lesson is relevant in your own life and howyou can share this lesson enthusiastically with your class.
Memory Verse

Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of theLord

Materials needed:
Crayons, green construction paper, coloring sheet

Schedule & Lesson
 
Free time
(10 minutes) Greet parents with a smile and welcome their child by greeting. Help parents sense they are leaving their child in a safeand caring environment. Put away any items the parent(s) has sent with thechild in a safe place. At the end of each week, make sure all toys aresanitized and ready to play with next Sunday. You may want to set outsome new toys from time to time to create interest.
Prayer & Snack
(10 minutes) Kids should wash their hands and sit downat the table. They should drink from a small cup, and use a napkin. Praya simple short pray before eating. Establish this so they learn good spiritualhabits and manners. Snack suggestions: toast & jelly, fish crackers, sliced
 
apples, raisins, cheese, vanilla wafers, water, apple juice, grape juice, or milk.

Lesson Time
(5-10 minutes) Use good expression for the kids and make itexciting. If a picture is provided with the lesson, color it in advance to showas you tell the story.

: Do you see my palm branch? (Use one either made or purchased) Watch me wave it. When we wave a plan branch, that is a signthat we are happy about something. Would you like to try waving a palmbranch? (Give each child one to wave). A long time ago, Jesus told his disciples to get him a donkey to ride. Thedisciples had to go find one. It did not take very long until they found a nicelooking donkey. They found a donkey that was big enough to carry Jesus.The disciple brought the donkey to Jesus.Next, the disciples took their coats and placed on the donkey
s back. Thisgave some padding for Jesus to sit upon the donkey.When Jesus entered the city, the people gave him a wonderful welcome.They cried out,
Hosanna! Let
s wave our palm branches and say loudly,
Hosanna
! (Demonstrate with the children)Hosanna means to
Praise God
. Let
s say our memory verse,
Hosanna,Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
!Jesus went to the temple, but it was getting late so he went back toBethany with the 12 disciples. Let
