Hale Kula Elementary SchoolJANUARY 2013 Parent Bulletin
Office: 622-6380
Waianae & Ayres Aves on Schofield Barracks, Hawai’i 96786
Aloha, Parents! As we begin a new calendar year as well as a new semester, I’d like to wish all of you aHappy New Year! For those of you who are new to our school, we’d like to welcome you to our Hale Kula`ohana.. `Ohana means “family,” and we are a family, providing support for each other so we canall be successful. We hope you will enjoy your experiences here! Our vision is “Working, learning, and succeeding
We take pride in providing ourstudents with a quality education, one that will help them to develop the skills and knowledge tobe successful at any school they attend now or in the future. We also believe that a home-school partnership is very important in a child’s educational development. We encourage you towork with your child’s teacher on ways to help your child at home. Please also check out ourwebsite atwww.halekula.k12.hi.usfor updated information about our school. We also have aFacebook account – Hale Kula Eagles – as well as a weekly Hale Kula Highlights blog. You can goto the school webpage to sign up by clicking on the Facebook and the HK Highlights links. We are so proud of our Hale Kula `ohana for being caring community contributors. Thethird graders were featured in an article in the Hawaii Army Weekly for spearheading afundraising drive to collect coins for victims of Hurricane Sandy. Altogether, we donated$2,040 for this effort. We also had a Jingle Bell Run (although the weather forced us tocancel the event), and $1051 was raised for the Laulima Giving Project. Our Student CouncilPresident Brandon Fox and Vice President Brianna Robinson were interviewed during the LaulimaGiving Project telethon on December 13. They were fine ambassadors of Hale Kula!We look forward to working with all of you as we strive to ensure success for all studentsat Hale Kula!Mahalo,Jan Iwase, Principal
School Community Council
We are still looking for a parent representative and alternate to the School CommunityCouncil. The SCC meets once a month to discuss progress on our Academic and Financial Plan aswell as school-related issues such as attendance, safety, and instructional programs. If you areinterested, please contact Principal Iwase at 808 622-6380 or email her at jan_iwase@notes.k12.hi.us.
Safety Issues
We have had several complaints about parents driving unsafely in the school zone and inthe parking lot. Please remember that there is a speed limit of 15 mph during school hours soslow down in the area around the school. We also ask that you allow yourself sufficient time toget to school so your child has sufficient time to get to his/her classroom before the tardy bellrings at 7:55.We also ask that you not park on the sidewalks by the fence fronting the school; parkingis in the parking lot only. MPs have indicated that they will be making checks and ticketing carsparked illegally. We know that you do not want to be ticketed, so the best solution is to park ina legal parking space. We do have a drive-through drop-off and pick-up area. During the morning, the drive-through drop-off can save you time; we generally have an adult to open the car door so you don’thave to get out of your car or look for a parking space. In the afternoon, we open the parkinglot after the bus leaves, about 10 minutes after the school bell rings. Parents can drive-through to pick up your child. If you choose this option, be sure that your child is waiting for you so you don’t have to get out of your car to look for him/her.We know that you will agree that keeping our children safe is
responsibility,so your cooperation is appreciated.
