Hackintosh hardware list
Submitted byJobyOne on July 11, 2009 - 3:02pm UPDATE: this list is dated as crap, I wrote it literally
ago. If you're looking for hardware advice, I suggest you check out theOSX86 Projectinstead. This page is appropriate for those who are looking for a budget Hackintosh with tried-and-true hardware, not so much for those wanting to build something torival a $3,000 Mac Pro.
Keep in mind that the legality of building a Hackintosh is a little grey. If you own a legal copy of OSX it is
legal to install on your new Hackintosh aslong as you wipe it from any other machines. There are other, less legal ways of getting a pre-patched copy of OSX86, but I'm obligated not to go into detail there...let's just say that if you don't know you can't find a copy you probably shouldn't bother trying to put together a Hackintosh.
 ASRock 775i945GZ
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
This one is a winner in a big way. It has been shown to be functional, it includes onboard wireless, and it supports a wide array of processors. ASUS is also a top-notch motherboard manufacturer.
It also isn't for sale on newegg any more...I don't know
with the P5W no longer around, this looks like the new best choice
 ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2

Video Cards
Video card support in OSX appears to be a little touchy. It's hard to say exactly which ones will work. It would be best to stick with nVidia because Apple usesnVidia for their hardware. Many of them appear to work fine after installing a piece of third party software called nVinject. Cards that may not work right untilinstalling nVinject are listed in
. Also make a note of the fact that MSI, nVidia, BFG, PNY, etc. are the actual
of the cards, and they matter. A PNY GeForce 7300 should workout of the box, while the same chipset on a board built by BFG will require nVinject to work properly.
