Dear Friends,Many of us might find change very difficult to deal with. Greatcomfort can be found in things staying the same. Some of usenjoy eating the same meal often, others may enjoy a routineand still others look forward to yearly traditions. There maybe grief, sadness or an unwillingness to accept change. Yetthis weekend the year 2012 will come to an end and the NewYear 2013 begins. Each year we encounter an ending and a beginning. Our Christian faith which has been around for 2,000 years has a long history of many things coming to an end, dying off and then experiencing the birth of newthings, rising a new. So the theme of our faith is
Dying and Rising
, an endingand beginning. The problem for some can be that we do not want to see certain things end;such as, our security, our jobs, our relationships, our home life, our loved onesliving with us, or even the way we have set up our way of life in the world. Thegrief in not wanting to let go, can be very painful. Endings are necessary if weare to move forward and find new birth, a new way of being. The
part of our lives ushers in a new way of seeing life, bringing newpeople into our lives to enrich them, taking on new careers, new experiences, filling our lives with new priorities that make them joyful. These are greatopportunities which may only be experienced when we allow the old things andways to come to an end. What will come to an end for us in 2012? What needs to change in our spiritualor personal lives? What door has been closed to us by situations or by others? What will the New Year bring to us? What doors will open to us this year thatwill make life more joyful, meaningful or savored?Change is always given to us at this time of year. Inside ourselves we desire tochange things in our lives and in doing so we can enter the New Year withexcitement, hope and renewal.
Dying and Rising
, coming to an end and new birth, the deep mystery for Christian Disciples in Mission. One cannot be in "Mission for Christ" if onerefuses to allow the
Dying and Rising
in our lives. We cannot have
and one will not
