I strongly believe Nichols' system is lacking some accuracy, since there are some correspondences that are very disputable. For instance, the letter Fearn (=F,V) is the *third* letter in the first Aicme, but Nichols says it corresponds to 4. Likewise, there aren't any Ogham letters sounding like "Z" in the fifth position of any Aicme (the only ones are "Nion" = N, "Quert" = Q/P, "Ruis" = R, and "Iodhadh" = I/J/Y). The only logical correspondence for Z is Straif (=S,SS,ST,Z), which is the *fourth* letter of the third Aicme, and it's value should thus be 4. From my own studies, I would prefer to use this system: 1= A B H M 2= D G L O 3= F T U V W 4= C E K S Z 5= I J N P Q R Y I don't know, though, to which number the letter "X" should correspond, since there isn't any Ogham letter corresponding to this sound (except the five Forfedha, of course, which were added much later). Hope this helped. :)
