WehopetopersuadeyouthatthedeterioratingrelationsbetweenyourgovernmentandFirst NationsinthenorthofTurtleIslandhavecreatedinternationalresponse,andtheydemandyour immediateattention.OfparticularconcerntousisyourunwillingnesstomeetwithChiefTheresa SpenceoftheAttawapiskatFirstNation.Weareaware,andmonitoring,ChiefSpencescondition sinceshebeganherhungerstrikeon11December2012. PrimeMinisterHarper,thisletterisbeingconveyedonbehalfofthousandsofpeoplefromColorado FirstNations,AmericanIndians,supportersandallies.Wewantyoutoknowthat,intheeventthat ChiefSpenceshealthispermanentlydamaged,orinthetragiceventthatsheshoulddiewaitingfora meetingwithyouandtheCrown,wewillholdyouandyourgovernmentpersonallyresponsiblefor sucharesult. YoushouldbeawarethattheintransigentandregressivepositionofyourgovernmenttowardsFirst Nationspeoplesisbeingviewedinternationallyasanaffronttotheinherentrightsofindigenous peoplesrights,andisaviolationofinternationallyrecognizedhumanrightsstandards.Becauseof that,wemustinsistthatyourgovernment: Immediatelyconveneameetingbetweenyou,asPrimeMinister,therepresentativeofthe QueenofEngland,ChiefTheresaSpence,andotherappropriateFirstNationleaderstodiscussthe direrelationshipbetweenFirstNationsandCanada. RepealtheantiFirstNationssectionsofOmnibusBillC45,andotherantiFirstNations legislation,suchas: BillC27FirstNationsFinancialTransparencyAct BillS2FamilyHomesonReserveandMatrimonialInterestsorRightAct BillS6FirstNationsElectionsAct BillS8SafeDrinkingWaterforFirstNations BillC428IndianActAmendmentandReplacementAct BillS207AnActtoamendtheInterpretationAct BillS212FirstNationsSelfGovernmentRecognitionBillandtheFirstNationsPrivateOwnership Act. HonoralltreatiesbetweenFirstNationsandtheCrown/Canadaasbindinginternational instruments. ImmediatelyimplementinCanadaallprovisionsoftheUNDeclarationontheRights ofIndigenousPeoplesthatprotectindigenousnationsrights,territories,andtreaties. Thecircumstancesoutlinedaboveareoftheutmostimportanceand,inadditiontoourlettertoyou, wehaveinsistedtotheObamaAdministrationthatitbeginareviewofitsrelationshipwiththe GovernmentofCanadaovertheseincreasinglyseriousdevelopments.Weencourageyoutotakethis communicationseriously,becausewe,andpeoplearoundtheglobe,aretrackingdevelopmentsin Canadawithgreatconcern.Weawaitquickandeffectiveactionfromyourgovernment.
