THE HERMES FILES Aegis Goals Overview Aegis came together in the face of one single, unprecedented threat:

alien invasion. Some might argue that invasion is too strong a term. No large-scale battles have been fought, no armies flood the streets, no flying saucers hover over the White House. Certainly, at this point, there is no invasion in conventional terms. However, since we discovered the truth about aliens among us we have known that they do not have our best interests at heart. What else could we expect? They are, after all, entirely different sentient species, with their own morals, beliefs and goals. They care for themselves just as we care for ourselves. We do not fault them for their ambitions or for their needs, nor do we support them. We fight for ourselves, for as a species that is all that we can ever do. Aegis stands as the United States first line of defence against the alien menace. Whatever else happens, whatever missions we undertake, whatever else we do, we should not forget that our primary mission is the defence of the nation against our foes, whoever they might be. When a new operative, agent or researcher joins a Cell, they swear an oath. They promise to hold their tongues, to never reveal to the public the truth about the war that threatens us all. Again, security features are updated to include DNA sampling and matching protocols. ANGEL HAIR Discovered falling from the sky, reports describe it as web-like filaments of white silky material in strands of anything up to 50 feet long. It can also be very strong, as the captain of the ship Roxburgh Castle found in an incident in 1962. He noticed white filaments over therailings of his vessel, with small cocoons of the same material still floating down from the sky. When the captain tried to pull the strands

away, he could scarcely break them. Yet, within minutes, the material had disappeared. A scientist who has analysed Angel Hair concluded: My research has shown that Angel Hair is very unstable and it degrades in oxygen. Shortly after falling on the ground, it usually disappears. A few specimens have been preserved, when, shortly after falling, they have been sealed in air-tight containers. Analysis has shown that its structure contains silicon, magnesium, calcium and boron. The strands in our laboratories are therefore not alien to the earth, yet they are very strange indeed. I cannot say whether it comes from UFOs. "I observed, far to my left and to the north, a formation of nine very bright objects coming from the vicinity of Mount Baker, flying very close to the mountain tops and travelling with tremendous speed," he said. He was in an agited state, and claimed the rest of his cell had been eliminated, assumed by enemy forces. There follows significant background noise, as if from a crowd, before the call terminated. Although no bodies were recovered in the course of our investigation, the deaths of all but one of the cell members listed as KIA is confirmed. It is concievable, though unlikely that one of these members is still alive. The call was picked up by a CIA monitoring device installed in the payphone. Cursory investigations have failed to reveal why this was installed, it appears to be a high-level CIA operation of unknown purpose. Upon travelling to the town of Dupont from which the call was traced, we conducted a brief investigation of the town itself. The payphone was located next to a rail marshalling yard. The glass in one side was cracked, with a trace of blood, which was matched to Mr Johnson. The surrounding area had been swept thoroughly, and little other evidence was forthcoming. Apart from the railyard, the only other installations of interest were the two shipping companies attached to it. Upon examining the Hermes reports logged by the team, their last report stated that they were investigating a lead from a newspaper story relating to supernatural sightings in the region of Dupont. At first sight, the article appeared to be somewhat trivial to attract the attention of a seven-man cell, but later evidence suggested that Frank Zimmer instigated the mission due to personal interests. The journalist who wrote the article, a Mr Peter Weaver was questioned about his sources from the article. Although Mr Weaver has proved something of an obstacle on this an subsequent occasions, we can find no evidence at this time that he has other allegiances. Similarly, no evidence was found that this report was designed to snare the Deimos team. After some investigation, we found that Ms. Suzanne Harker was resident in the motel we were staying in. She had not, as we had initally suspected, been killed with the rest of the team, as she was away on a conference, and had not been with the team. She was debriefed and sent to assist the CHAFF team with their analysis of the extensive documentation found at the Deimos cell headquarters. A review of the motel's booking register revealed a number of interesting facts. The Deimos team had been booked in here until recently, as had a Mr Sinclair, who was later identified as a member of the board of Cam's Cargo, one of the shipping companies. Further investigation revealed that Mr Sinclair owns both companies, and furthermore, has no birth certificate, or registration documents of any kind.

An examination of tyre marks in the motel's parking lot revealed what were concluded to be a recovery truck towing away the Deimos cell's van. At this point we began implementing a policy of extreme caution with regard to the village and its inhabitants. Tyler-Hare and I proceeded to a nearby indian stone circle, which had clearly been recently visited by the Deimos team. Equipment had been installed there which was later established to be monitoring the levels of supernatural acivity in the area, and had been set up by Frank Zimmer. Tyler conducted a ritual to establish contact with the local presence. He ascertained that it was not the cause of the dissappearances, see his report for more detail on this matter. We then began satellite surveillance of the area, attempting to establish the location of the cell's vehicles. Conducting cursory scan's of the nearby forests proved fruitless. However, upon searching the town, a number of anomalous events were recorded. The number of children attending the school was abnormally large, especially since the catchment area was later established to extend only to Dupont itself, which has a listed population of 250. Secondly, there were large amounts of activity at the railyards. During this, I located the vehicles, which were visible from under the shed in which they had been parked in the railyard. While Tyler-Hare conducted an interview of one of the sources for the new report, who provided a great deal of useful information, Romero and I infiltrated the railyard under cover of darkness, and gained access to the vehicles. I collected all of the removable items from either vehicle, namely Van One Hermes unit, keyed to Charles Danson. There was some blood on this, we are still waiting on the typing of this. Several tapes and disks, including radar logs from the van's array, two computer backup drives, and a small format video cassette from the videocamera, which was placed in the van. A notepad containing shorthand. This was dispatched to the CHAFF team for further analysis. Car The main body of the car was entirely empty. The trunk contained a crate of various soil samples and two shotguns. The soil samples were mundane, and we were unable to determine whether the shotguns had been recently fired. We exited the railyard without being detected. Signs of our entry would have been minimal, some footprints in a fairly secluded spot at best. It is unknown whether the items were missed. Later investigation revealed the following:

The radar logs include extensive footage of a large creature moving very quickly through the forest. The movements are too fast to be explained by any known terrestrial creature. The logs also capture the moment at which Johnson phoned in the converging crowds are clearly visible. The backup drives contain the logs from the devices installed at the Indian site. The videotape (attached) contains footage of Zimmer, Danson, Umboto and Mitchell packing up an leaving the Indian site. As they are leaving, they are attacked by a humanoid dark green lizard-like being. This is believed to be the same creature observed on the radar logs. The creature kills the group, although only three of the kills are confirmed. We believe that Zimmer retreated to the warding circle he had established at the site, but was later somehow killed. Investigation into the school did uncover anomalies in the number of children attending, and the high ratio of achievement. From the information that Tyler had gained in his interview, we concluded that the town was a Black Book operation, producing children who went on to infiltrate the US political-industrial-military block. The town also appeared to be linked to what are believed to be the operations of wild of juvenile Saurians. From these conclusions, it was clear that Dupont represented a clear and continuing threat to Aegis. At this point we filed our preliminary reports, recommending that drastic action be taken. Duly, the town was attacked and largely destroyed by a train crash engineered by other Aegis operatives. Clean-up operations continue, including our subsequent recovery of one of the Saurian juveniles designated ALICE. The tracing and investigation of some 200 alumni of Dupont High continues. Suzanne Harker has continued operating with our cell, although she appears to be having difficulty coping with the deaths of her colleagues. also killed by the disease. The team had been monitoring Manuel because he was said to be a faith healer, and indeed showed remarkable results according to the records kept by the deceased Aegis members. Manuel is believed to have survived because of his astonishing regenerative abilities. However, he no longer possesses his ability to heal others. Instead, his touch now spreads the disease, and Manuel himself is using all his healing powers to prevent the disease from killing him. Present location is in a secure Aegis research facility. Sterilisation of the town by napalm took place immediately after the rescue of Manuel. The rescue helicopter was incinerated upon landing, along with all NBC suits worn by rescue operatives. The disease appears to have been specifically created to attack a genetic profile not consistent with a particular racial grouping, but has become more generalised. It is believed the Mexico outbreak was a test firing. GENTEK INC A genetic research company which holds no American facilities, but a records office is based at the home of Senator Michael Smith in Washington DC. The company has a turnover of $30m a year, and has two major bases in Budapest and Atlanicos, Mexico. GORMAN INCIDENT Date: October 1, 1948 Lt George F Gorman, of the US Air Force, was flying over Fargo on October 1, 1948, and encountered an unknown light or object. The event lasted 27 minutes. Gorman was getting in some extra night flying time when he spotted what he thought was a plane tail-light, but the control tower only reported one other plane in the vicinity, a Piper Cub which Gorman could also see. Gorman steered his F-51 towards the light and on two occasions was on a collision course with it when it shot away at astonishing speed. Since this incident, she has become clinically depressed, finding it hard to deal with working in a base with so many absent friends. Deimos Cell, based in Carlisle, DC, has been merged with the Washington DC Cell and Harker has started to improve thanks to the new members around her, but is still fragile. HESSDALEN, NORWAY (Case file 0565927) So many strange lights, like Will-O-Wisps, have been seen in this remote farming district, it has become a place of pilgrimage for scientists and amateurs hoping to record and measure them. Erling Strand made a remarkable discovery when he led one such project in the 1980s. When he directed a laser beam at one of the lights, it started flashing twice as fast, indicating that it was reacting to the stimulus. Marcus was a martial arts instructor with some considerable psychic potential who was recruited into the Washington DC fledgeling cell created by James Bradley before his disappearance. Marcus became increasingly paranoid as his psychic abilities seemed to overwhelm him, especially when placed in hostile situations. Marcus was eventually terminated by other members of his team when he lost control during a mission, and threatened the

lives of the rest of the team. The action was extreme, but deemed necessary by Aegis superiors. However, the team has been held at arms length since the combination of that death and the disappearance of Bradley. MEDUEGNA, BELGRADE, YUGOSLAVIA In the village of Meduegna in the 18th century, a group of doctors investigated an outbreak of vampirism. On January 7, 1732, Johannes Flickinger, Isaac Seidel, Johann Baumgartner and a Lt Col and a Sub-commandant from Belgrade signed the medical report. They testified to an examination of corpses. Only two a mother and baby were found to be in a normal state of decomposition. All the others were unmistakably in the vampire condition. Mentzer was an associate of Charles Manson and also implicated in the killing of Arliss Perry, a devout Christian slain in North Dakota. Mentzer is suspected as being the person identified by David Berkovita, the man convicted of the Son of Sam slayings, as Manson II. Los Angeles Police openly acknowledged Mentzers membership in some kind of hit squad. The Process Church of the Final Judgement has been associated with both the Manson and Sam slayings, and has been said by some commentators to be the operation running such a hit squad. Dr Pye arrived to find a room, shrouded in darkness, and transformed into a fortress against vampires. Salt was scattered around the room and sprinkled over with blankets. A bag of salt rested by the dead mans face and another was laid between his legs. The man had mixed salt with his urine and put it in various containers around the room. On the window ledge was an inverted bowl covering a mix of human excretia and garlic. Myicuira was a Polish immigrant who had arrived in Britain 25 years earlier and lived in Stoke, working as a potter. The body was examined and the pathologist reported Myiciura had choked to death on a pickled onion, an unusual way to die but not unknown. PC Pye went to the library and did some research. He discovered the salt and garlic were traditional vampire repellents while the mixture on the windowsill was intended to attract then poison the vampire. PC Pye asked for a re-examination

which showed the pickled onion to be a clove of garlic. Myiciura had slept with a clove of garlic in his mouth and choked on it so the vampires did get him in the end. BRIAN NORTH AKA Adam Smith SAS operative assigned to protection of the ambassador to Washington DC. Become involved with Aegis during the investigation of a so-called doppleganger. Has since been an integral member of the cell formed by James Bradley, offering considerable skills in the security department, and a useful connection to the British government. PAOLE, ARNOLD In a case reported to the Imperial Council of War in Vienna in the 1730s, a Hungarian soldier named Arnold Paole is said to have returned from the grave. He had been killed when a cart fell on him but returned 30 days later and claimed four victims, who eventually died from loss of blood. Friends recalled Paole saying he had been attacked by a vampire himself during military service on the TurkoSerbian border but he thought himself cured having eaten earth from the vampires grave and rubbed himself with its blood. When Paoles body was exhumed, it showed all the marks of an arch-vampire, with long hair, nails and beard and veins full of flowing blood. The body was staked with a shriek from Paole, and then burned, and the other four victims were treated similarly. Five years later, a second outbreak occurred and 17 people died. A second inquiry showed Paole had also attacked animals as well as humans. Parts of the flesh of these animals had been

eaten and, in due course, had caused the new epidemic. All the new, infected vampires were exhumed, staked, decapitated, burned and the ashes tossed in the river. The killings, at last, ceased. PHANTOMS OF FLIGHT 401 Place: Aircraft of Eastern Airlines, USA Time: From 1972 onward Early in December 1972, a stewardess with Eastern Airlines told some of her colleagues of a premonition, in which she had seen a Lockheed Tri-Star on approach to Miami International Airport. She saw the port wing crumple as the aircraft hit the ground and heard the despairing cries of the injured. The disaster would occur, she said, "around the holidays, closer to New Year". Asked if she and her colleagues were to be the cabin crew, she replied: "No, but it's going to be real close." On December 29, there was a last-minute change in crew schedules, the stewardess and her colleagues did not take Flight 401 from New York to Miami. Late in the evening, the aircraft crashed in the Florida Everglades, all of the flight crew and many of the passengers being killed. Among the fatalities were Capt Bob Loft and flight engineer, Second Officer Don Repo. The cause of the crash was found to be a couple of minor design faults in the controls, and Lockheed rapidly corrected them. However, it appears that some undamaged parts of the aircraft were subsequently recycled in other planes. Following this, a number of mysterious incidents were reported. One of the VPs of Eastern Airlines boarded a Miami-bound TriStar at JFK airport and spoke to a uniformed captain sitting in First Class. Suddenly, he recognised the captain was Bob Loft - at which point the apparition vanished. On another occasion at JFK, Loft was seen, and spoken to, by the plane's captain and two flight attendants The captain was sufficiently disturbed to cancel the flight. One aircraft, number 318, was particularly affected. A woman found herself sitting next to an Eastern Airlines flight officer who looked pale and ill, but would not speak; she called a stewardess but before the eyes of several people, the man disappeared. The woman was later shown photographs of Eastern Airlines engineers, and identified Don Repo. On another flight, from New York to Mexico City, his face appeared in the oven window, and two stewardesses and an engineer from the flight deck heard him say: "Watch out for fire on this airplane". On its take-off from Mexico City, one of the plane's engines malfunctioned, and it had to return to the runway.

There were other incidents. In one, a TriStar captain said he had spoken to Repo, who told him: "There will never be another crash (of a TriStar)... we will not let it happen." Manson was paid a visit by members of the Process after questioning and subsequently refused to discuss the Process ever again. During the Son Of Sam investigation, a book came into the hands of North Dakota police. The book, about witchcraft, contained references to the Process, and was accompanied by the words Arliss Perry, Hunted Stalked and Slain. Followed to Calif. Stanford University in the handwriting of David Berkowitz, who was later convicted of the Son of Sam killings. The reference to Perry dates to a murder in Dakota in 1974 of a devout Christian. Berkowitz also intimated a second person was involved both in the Perry killing and the second Son of Sam slaying, a person identified only as Manson II, but thought by some commentators to be John Mentzer, a convicted killer. I said, Sir, I think its rather obvious what that is. And he took the paper and stood up, and when he stood up, everybody else stood up except me and Puthoff, and he walked out of the room, and so did the others. So Puthoff and I went back to the hotel and I said, Oh Christ, weve blown the program. So we went out and got drunk on marguaritas and things like that. Three days later, Puthoff got a call. There were two genealogies dating from 1244AD and 1644AD and more recent documents containing a series of cyphers and codes, some fantastically complex. Sauniere took his discovery to higher powers, who set about study. One of the simplest codes translated as To Dagobert II King and to Sion belongs this treasure and he is there dead. As a result of this discovery, Sauniere somehow became involved in both the upper echelons of French society and an increasingly bizarre sequence of restoration of the parish church and the vicinity. After uncovering an underground crypt, supposedly containing skeletons, Sauniere spent a fortune refurbishing the village with garish and outre symbolism to the fore. Yet his money came from a source that has never been established. It has been intimated that the treasure was no less than the Holy Grail itself. Modern theorists have suggested it was not the grail, but secrets protected by the Priory of Zion, whose leaders laid claim to the literal bloodline of Christ himself. through then, in short order, a series of events plagued the village. Car indicators flashed and engines started, apparently on their own. TV sets switched themselves off and on, a pair of ski boots, an armchair and a wheelchair caught fire, and observers reported car lights melting in front of their eyes and bursting into flames. People complained of headaches and skin inflammations which would not report to treatment. No explanation for these events was found, though suggestions ranged from the work of the devil to a test-firing of SDI systems. See case file #6657928 Soviet Space Centre Attacked Type: Close encounter of the second kind Place: Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan (then part of the USSR) Date: June 1, 1982 The enormous Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan was one of the former USSRs foremost spaceflight centres and it was from here that the first Soviet space shuttle mission the Eastern blocs response to the US Challenger program was launched in November, 1988. Scientists Dr Alexei Zolotov and Dr Vladimir Azhazha reported that on June 1, 1982, two UFOs hovered over the space centre. One came down directly toward launch pad one, while the other stayed near the centres housing complex. The gantries at the launch pad suffered from split welded joints, and rivets had apparently been sucked out of them. At the housing complex, thousands of windows were shattered or holed. The base was closed for two weeks for repairs.

Assessment: It is possible that UFOs were blamed for a launch pad disaster tat the ever-secretive Soviets did not wish to admit. However, skeptic James Oberg confirmed that the Baikonur complex was out of action at this time, but he could not discover why. Welds are actually stronger than the sections of metal they join, so an unusually powerful force must have been behind the damage. TUNGUSKA Around 7am on June 30, 1908, passengers of the Trans-Siberian express witnessed the great Siberian fireball. The carriages shook violently as the bright blue fireball roared overhead, while the driver thought his train was exploding. By 7.15am, the fireball had reached the isolated Siberian trading post of Vanavara. S B Semenow, a local farmer, was sitting on his porch at the time. He said a fireball covered an enormous part of the sky and appeared from the NW. The noise was tremendous, and Semenow collapsed in pain. He felt his shirt was on fire. Within seconds, the fireball impacted in a region of bogs and pine-covered hills traversed by the Tunguska river. A series of blinding flashes followed, and a pillar of fire reached so high it could be seen hundreds of miles away. Even as far away as 370 miles to the south, horses were knocked over and houses shook, while as far away as Paris and London, the sky was seen to light up brightly. Nights of up to 100 times brighter than normal were recorded from Western Europe to the Near East, and vast tracts of forest in the area were levelled. No metallic traces, which would be expected in a meteor, were ever found. UFO Sighting, First on Record Type: Daylight Disk Place: Egypt Date: Reign of Pharaoh Thutmose III Thutmose (also known as Thothmes) III ruled Egypt jointly with his wife, his halfsister Queen Hatshepsut, from about 1501 Before the Common Era (BCE) and after his death as sole pharaoh from the year 1479 until 1447 BCE. Thutmose is widely regarded by historians as having been one of the greatest of all the rulers of ancient Egypt.

According to a papyrus allegedly found among the papers of a director of the Vaticans Egyptian Museum, In the year 22, of the third month of the winter, sixth hour of the day the scribes of the House of Life found there was a circle of fire coming in the sky It had no head, the breath of its mouth had a foul odour. Its body was one rod (16.5ft/5m) long and one rod wide. It had no voice. On hearing of the event, the pharaoh meditated on it, but after some days these things became more numerous in the sky than ever. Thereupon, these fire circles ascended higher in the sky toward the south Assessment: The circular appearance of these objects, their peculiar mell and their silence are all paralleled in modern UFO reports. However, there are striking similarities between this account and the vision of Ezekiel (see UFOs In The Bible): the Vatican cannot trace the Tulli manuscript and suspects it was a fake. Such interpretations, however, are a minority view. Book of Exodus: Scholars date the Exodus at about the 14th century BCE. In Exodus Ch 13, vs 21-22, as Moses leads the children of Israel out of Egypt toward Mount Sinai and the Promised Land the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night. This, according to Brinsley le Poer Trench, is a wonderful description of a modern flying saucer. Second Book Of Kings: In Ch 2, the prophet Elijah who lived around 900 BCE crosses the River Jordan with his son Elisha; in verse 11, it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. This is seen by some commentators as a description of the prophet being taken aboard a flying saucer. Book of Ezekiel: This Hebrew prophet was a captive of Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, and was transported to Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) in 597BCE. On four occasions, he had visions that some writers think were of extraterrestrial spaceships. These are recounted in Chapters 1, 8, 10 and 43. The first description reads in part as follows: A whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.

From this, Joseph F Blumrich, a senior executive at NASAs Marshall Spaceflight Center, reconstructed the spacecraft Ezekiel saw; according to Blumrich, it was an elaborate device like a quadruple helicopter. Assessment: Of the pillars of cloud and fire in Exodus, Ronald Story notes that the Bible says that, when the Hebrews arrived at Mt Sinai, they found it altogether in a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire and the whole mount quaked greatly which Story considers more likely to be a volcano than a UFO. Elijahs translation to heaven by fiery chariot is, of course, purely symbolic. He was eating with the farmer and his family one evening when they were joined by an old man. The soldier noticed that the family were very frightened of the man, who simply touched the farmer on the shoulder and then left. The next morning, the farmer was dead. Apparently, the old man was the hosts father and had been dead for ten years. The soldier told the story to other men in his regiment and the old man was soon labelled a vampire. Alarm soon became so widespread that the infantry commander investigated. Along with some other officers and a surgeon, he took the familys statements under oath and eventually opened the old mans grave. His body looked like that of a man who had died recently not ten years earlier and his blood was like that of a living man.
