The party starts from 5-7 p.m. at Busboys and Poets restaurant at 2021 14th Street Northwest in Washington, D.C. Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, community gathering place, bookstore, poetry and "where people can discuss issues of social justice and peace." Meet in Langston Hughes Room at Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C. (Two block walk from U St. Metro station - and Green/Yellow lines). The name Busboys and Poets refers to American poet Langston Hughes, who worked as a busboy at the Wardman Park Hotel in the 1920s, prior to gaining recognition as a poet. Be treated to a night of laughs courtesy of Rick Overton - an Emmy Award Winner, American screenwriter, actor and comedian and self claiming imperfectionist Overton's writing credits include Dennis Miller Live and acting credits include being "The Drake" in Seinfeld, Groundhog Day (Ralph), plus appearing in Willow and The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne. Rick's philosophy on life is - "One cannot achieve true happiness without Serotonin." There will be a special award ceremony and 'thank you' to our old friend, U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern. Shallal is an Iraqi-American artist (Born 1955 in Baghdad), activist, restaurateur and best known for his opposition to the 2003 invasion of Iraq and as proprietor of the Busboys and Poets restaurant chain in the Washington, D.C. area.
