Cooperative tools in educational software life cycle

Grazia Calabro’ - ICTE (International Conference Training and Education), 1994.

Abstract
This paper concerns with two different phases of the educational software life:
the authoring and the delivery processes. The first phase, starting from the
software design and ending at the evaluation, involves different actors which need
to coordinate and integrate their work. In the second phase the students use the
software previously produced and should be possible to collaborate each others and
with the teacher.
The paper underlines the importance to have, in both phases, an available
collaborative environment supporting groupware, information sharing, access to
local and remote data bases and to services in an integrated way with the author
and the student application. At the same time, some kind of cooperative tools and
services are individuated according to the activities to be supported.
Particularly, different approaches, like the integration of author systems with
interactive multimedia communication services and Workflow Management Technology
(WMT) are treated.
This technology, usually applied in office automation field, is briefly described
and linked with educational context. The advantages coming from each approaches
are described and it is established when it is suitable to use the WMT.
