 All over the world, people are adopting a way of life that excludes violence towards other animals.They have feelings, too. Why would anyone wantto contribute to needless suffering? Major healthorganizations such as
The American & CanadianDietetic Associations
state that appropriatelyplanned vegan diets are healthful and providebenefits in the prevention and treatment of certaindiseases. Avegan diet is appropriate for individu-als during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood,adolescence, and for athletes. Therefore, humanshave no physical need for consuming animalproducts.
We now know that consuming animalproducts is completely unnecessary.
Many long-time vegans are living proof thathumans do not need to eat animal products, wear animal skins, seek scientific data from, or beentertained by, the oppression of other animals.Many vegans report an increase in self-esteemand awareness. Many also become moreinformed about nutrition, more concerned for our environment, and more connected with other species. In addition, many report experiencinggreater mental clarity and physical energy, fewer colds, and less illness in general.
The Reality of Dairy and Eggs
We are the only species that drinks the milk of another species -- a totally unnatural act.
Dairyand egg production unbearably exploits thefemale reproductive system of cows, hens, (andgoats). In order for us to obtain her milk, a cow isperpetually kept in a state of distress and physicaldiscomfort. She is forcibly inseminated and keptpregnant so we can steal the milk that was, bynature, meant for her calf. In most cases, her calf will be taken from her within a day of birth. Thisheartless practice causes much suffering to bothmother and child. The calves are then killed either immediately after birth or kept immobilized incrates until slaughtered for their flesh. The dairy,meat, leather, and veal industries are alldependent upon each other. Those who consumedairy products pay someone to inflict suffering anddeath on cows and calves. If a person cares aboutanimals, becoming vegan is the first step.
Don't Believe the Lies!
Institutional exploiters of animals take the lives of sentient beings and turntheir bodies into commodi-ties, even training slaughter-house workers to think of animals as lifeless objects.Commercials convince thepublic that cows are happyto give us their milk, whenin fact, they are brutalized and butchered.Hearing the cries of those before them, cows tryto turn around in the narrow chutes they are prod-ded down to meet their death, but they can't.Ex-slaughterhouse workers have reported thatpigs scream and look their killers in the eyesasking "Why are you doing this to me?" Achildwould approach a lamb to "pet it", not "eat its leg".With the help of our misguided indoctrination, wehave disconnected from this simple truth.

In becomingvegan, we become one who protests against rape,slavery, violence, and killing, in our daily lives.Many vegans feel compelled to educate othersand help them to become vegan -- a way of life(not a diet), that opposes all animal exploitationand oppression. An essential part of being a vegan is readinglabels. Vegans do not contribute to animalexploitation by using or supporting any of thefollowing products or practices:- animal flesh (including fish) and animalproducts: dairy, eggs, cheese, honey,animal-derived byproducts (casein, whey,gelatin, milk solids)- leather, wool, silk, down, fur, animal skins- vivisection, cosmetics/toiletries/householdcleaners that contain animal ingredientsand/or are tested on animals- pet shops, puppy mills, breeding, buying or selling living beings, confining birds in cagesor fishes in bowls. Fishing, hunting, rodeos,cockfights- circuses, zoos, marine parks; sea and landanimal prisons- dog/horse racing, dog shows, horse-drawncarriages
