The Commission
Proessor Christine Gilbert, CBE
was Her Majesty’s Chie Inspector,Education, Children’s Services and Skills, at Osted rom 2006 until 2011.Prior to this, Christine was Chie Executive o the London Borough o Tower Hamlets. She joined the Council in 1997 as Corporate Director,Education, having been Director o Education in the London Borougho Harrow. Christine spent 18 years teaching in schools, eight o themas a secondary school headteacher.Currently, Christine is Visiting Proessor o Education at the Instituteo Education. She is also undertaking a number o local and nationaleducation projects.
Proessor Chris Husbands
took up the post o Director o theInstituteo Education in 2011. He began his career teaching Historyin comprehensive schools and was a senior manager in schools beoreentering higher education. He was Proessor o Education and Directoro the Institute o Education at the University o Warwick, Dean o Education and Lielong Learning at the University o East Anglia andProessor o Education at the IOE. He was elected to the Academy o Learned Societies or the Social Sciences (AcSS) in 2012.
Brett Wigdortz
has been CEO o Teach First since its launch in 2002,having written the original business plan or the charity while workingas a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. Previouslyhe has worked as a consultant, a journalist and researcher.Originally rom New Jersey he has a bachelor’s degree in economicsrom the University o Richmond and a master’s degree in economicsrom the University o Hawai’i. He currently serves as a trustee o PEASand Future Leaders. He is also the co-ounder, trustee and strategy adviserto Teach For All. His book

, a candid accounto the rst 10 years o Teach First, was published in September 2012.
Proessor Becky Francis
is Director o the Commission. She is Director o the Pearson Think Tank, and Proessor o Education and Social Justiceat King’s College London. She was previously Director o Education atthe RSA, and Proessor o Education at Roehampton University. Becky’spolicy research and analysis includes her recent inuential work on‘Satisactory’ schools, in relation to social disadvantage; and she is bestknown or her academic work on gender and educational achievement.
