The combination of skills and qualities I have developed through my placement at National Grid, will help me stand out from other graduates and assist me in finding a job in the future.
OPDESH SAGOO
Studying Economics and Geography at Reading University, the energy industry attracted me due to its continuous innovation and creativity and I wanted to work for a large organisation, so I was eager to undertake a summer internship with National Grid. On my first day everyone was really friendly and this continued throughout my placement. While making me feel as comfortable as possible, I was given real responsibility from the very first day. If I had any questions I felt comfortable asking a team member. I learned a lot about the business itself and the part played by Finance. Overall the experience has been invaluable, my data analysis skills using tools such as SAP and excel have improved and Im now confident in creating financial reports. This will definitely benefit me in the future for any financial position I work in. I attended a number of meetings, increasing my confidence, and even had the chance to participate in trips outside the workplace; visiting different offices and even attended a Sustainability Conference in London - a close interest of mine. This was amazing as it provided an insight into travelling and communicating with other colleagues from National Grid all over the world. The combination of skills and qualities I have developed through my placement at National Grid, will help me stand out from other graduates and assist me in finding a job in the future. National Grid offers their current placement students the chance to attend an early assessment centre for the Graduate Programme, so I am hopeful to return next year after University!

The exposure I have gained to the business world is invaluable and has enabled me to develop a wide range of skills during the year.
AIDEN HYDE
Nottingham Trent Industrial placement
I am an Accounting and Finance student from Nottingham Trent University and have recently started my industrial placement year at National Grid. I chose National Grid because its a large, reputable organisation with a placement scheme in place. I am working in the Gas Distribution Finance team, who have straight away made me feel very welcome. There is great support from my line manager and graduate buddy. There are four other placement students working in Warwick, the regular interaction between the placement students has helped build rapport between us and weve been able to share knowledge. During my year, National Grid has given me excellent opportunities and skills, to help boost my CV by involving me in projects and experience of a number of financial analysing tools, which are transferable to other businesses. The exposure I have gained to the business world is invaluable and has enabled me to develop a wide range of skills during the year. Overall I think my placement year has been a great experience, giving me real work and responsibilities, which will be a great stepping stone for my future career.

National Grid is one of the largest and most reputable energy transportation companies in the world and their growing future and environmental challenges really represented what I believe in.
NICOLA WAINWRIGHT
Leeds University Industrial placement
I am an Accounting and Finance student currently working in the Management Reporting team of National Grid. I decided to take a year out from my course to complete an industrial placement for a number of reasons; I wanted to gain hands on experience working in Finance to consolidate knowledge I have learnt at university, and to develop and learn further skills that will help me in my final year at university and beyond. National Grid is one of the largest and most reputable energy transportation companies in the world and their growing future and environmental challenges really represented what I believe in. This combined with great training and development opportunities, investing in their people, I looked upon this as a great prospect for my personal growth. There is also a group called Newnet which helps new starters learn about the organisation in a variety of ways from site visits to presentations, as well as a great opportunity to meet other new starters. Throughout my year at National Grid Ive gained many valuable experiences, with responsibilities, working on projects and gaining exposure to many parts of National Grid. Ive developed my skills with Excel and other tools while also building upon my communication and presentation skills which will help me in my final year at University.
