NEW PALLADIANS
I
that the ve-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Andrea Palladio hasprovided an occasion for e Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment and theTraditional Architecture Group to join forces to mount a major exhibition of work by the world’s leading practitioners of traditional and classical architecture.e support of this event by and the Institute of Classical Architecture in theUnited States has meant that, for the rst time, the four major organisations that championthe values of humanism, tradition, continuity and environmental stewardship come together.e exhibition rearms the goal that we share together of establishing a credible counterpointto the constant erosion of cornerstones of traditions in architecture and building that haveresiliently lasted for generations aer Palladio. It is very encouraging to see that at the outset of the twenty-rst century so many leadingarchitects across many generations and countries with dierent traditions have come togetherin celebration of values that transcend borders, age and indeed cultures. The Prince’s Foundation, through its activities and network, has been instrumentalin providing a platform for, as well as a link between, education and best practice. I amparticularly pleased that so many of the architects who are part of our network and membershipprogramme are represented in the exhibition or are part of the supporting organisations.Palladio’s legacy and his buildings will continue to educate, delight and enlighten futuregenerations. It is therefore vital that we capture the spirit and essence of his legacy and usehis wisdom to shape our own environment. is will, in turn, allow us to build buildingsthat endure and create towns, cities and places that inspire future generations who may casta critical eye on the legacy we leave behind.I congratulate the
New Palladians
; through their work they continue to enrich andmake relevant Palladio’s principles, which imbue their buildings with a sense of history and continuity. eir endeavours preserve a rich tradition that has illuminated the path of architects of many generations into the future we inhabit today. ’
