wasborn and raised inConyers, Georgia,where the gospel musicof his parents churchinfused him with hisgrounding in one of thefoundational forms of American music andthe roots of Jazz. Heattended University of North Florida on amusic scholarship,where he won the International Trumpet Guild Jazz Trumpet competition.In 1991, Printup met his mentor, the greatpianist Marcus Roberts. Roberts thenintroduced Printup to trumpet legend WyntonMarsalis. Marsalis was so impresed with himthat he extended an invitation to join the Jazz atLincoln Center Orchestra in 1993.Printup has recorded withsome of the modernlegends of Jazz, including Betty Carter, DianneReeves, Eric Reed,Madeline Peyroux, TedNash, Cyrus Chestnut,Wycliffe Gordon, andRoberts, among others.His records as a leaderinclude Song for theBeautiful Woman,Unveiled, Hub Songs,Nocturnal Traces, TheNew Boogaloo, Peace in the Abstract, Bird of Paradise, London Lullaby, Ballads All Night,and A Time for Love.Printup has several albums to his creditincluding,

DreyfoosSchool of the Arts’DSOA Jazzprogram is one of the top high schoolJazz programs inthe nation. The revisedprogram, in itsthird year, hasturned out threeFlorida All_Statemusicians a yearfor the last twoyears under thedirection of PedroHernandez-Ibarra. Their currentSaxophone line inthe Jazz Ensembleis the best in thestate, with three All-State musiciansplaying. DSOA Jazz students haveappeared with theGrammy StudentBand, the JazzBand of America.Winner of the PalmBeach CountyBattle of the Bandsin 2012, DSOA Jazz graduatessome of the finestnew Jazz artists inthe nation.
