The posterior triangle has a fascial roof and afascial floor.
The fascial floor is continuous with the
prevertebralfascia
.
The fascial roof is composed of the
investing layer of the deep cervical fascia
that actually splits toenvelop the trapezius and the sternocleidomastoidmuscle.
The fascial roof is pierced by the
external jugular vein
and cutaneous nerves.

Sternocleidomastoid muscle:
 
Attachments: manubrium of the sternum andmedial 1/3 of the clavicle TO the mastoidprocess and lateral ½ of superior nuchal line.
Innervation:spinal accessory nerveandbranches of C2 and C3.
Action: turns face to theopposite side;accessory muscle of respiration.
