Cycling Recovery for the Baby Boomer
As they reach the senior years or baby boomer status many people take up some kind of activity thatwill keep them mobile and moving-because of its high mobility low impact status unless you falloff some of them choose cyclingWhile being past the cross country rough riding sort of cycling, they may prefer the more leisurelytouring version and do this individually or in club riding-whichever they do, it can turn into anendurance ride if ambitions exceed the ability of the babyboomer to finish the distance they have setthemselvesMuscle soreness while riding and stiffness after resting for a while can fatigue the muscles becausewhile the need for oxygen taken to them by fresh blood that working muscles need to work atmaximum capacity is increased, the muscle stiffness and tightness can reduce the supplySimply stopping and resting when things become too much is simply going to allow the muscles tocool and stiffen even more making it more difficult to start riding and pedalling again-if you aregoing to help the muscle recover so you can ride without difficulties, it is best to do it while they arein the 'window of opportunity'-while they are still warm and pliableAt this stage, they will be sore and fatigued-working

them using conventional recovery systemsmay do more harm than good because it interferes with the bodies own recovery processes whichstart as soon as the muscles stop being stressedGently assisting the muscles to get rid of by-products and wastes that have formed-as the by-products are removed, fresh blood can enter the tissues and enhance healing-allowing the rider toget back on the bike without the inconvenience they may normally expectthe muscles being enlisted to assist in their own recoveryThese effects would be muscle soreness and stiffness-while not a problem in themselves they canprove an inconvenienceIn the normal course of events there is very little injury other than small micro-tears in the over usedmuscle tissues-unless there has been a problem from an exterior sources such as impact or bio-mechanical causes to increase muscle stressIf an injury does happen, then depending on the seriousness of it, medical advice should be soughtand taken-if it is not serious then the usual first aid treatment should be given-
Rest Ice Compression Elevation
The cyclist can be living anywhere-town, city, country and when they reach their destination pointthey are not always within reach of a massage therapist to help with their stiff sore muscles, and if one is on the ride with them they certainly won’t have all their equipment with them such asmassage oil, towels and massage table on their bike-

The World Run Recovery System
The World Run Recovery System offers an alternative way of assisting the body to recover withoutinterfering with the healing processes that are already occurring-and it does this without putting themuscles at risk of being injured by too much pressure generated by the ends of the fingers workinginto the tissues at this early stage of recovery. The system works by using the bodies own mechanics of bones, joints, and muscles to push usedblood and toxins from the lower legs-these can then be replaced by fresh blood-oxygen filled bloodwhich will enhance recovery time and speed the recovery of the runner
Enhancing recovery quickly and easily using the principles of

Simplicity

Predictability

Consistency
Using these 3 principles it is possible to not only enhance recovery times, but to do it without theinconvenience of disrobing or using oils or equipment such as massage table towels or needing thehandskills or techniques of modern massage practises. This places easy recovery for anyone to use with very little training and without any equipment tobuy or maintain

Cycling Recovery for the Baby Boomer using the World Run Recovery SystemCopyright 2009 Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist3My only equipment for 24 hour run consisted of a chair next to the bottles to maintain the legrecovery of 20 people when I looked after the Danish team at the world championships in 2007The advantage of this type of system is that it makes the senior cyclist independent in their ownrecovery without having to carry any equipment on the bike other than a strap or even a length of string to do the self seated system on stopping for a break There is nothing wrong with the legs, there is basically nothing to fix on there is no point getting inusing complicated recovery systems that

Will cost a great deal of money

Will take a lot end of study

Will need equipment

Will needSOMEONEto use itThe World Run Recovery System has been tested by many runners and walkers around the world(www.worldrun.org
