\u00dclkemizde ilk sosyoloji enstit\u00fcs\u00fc "\u0130\u00e7timaiyat D\u00e2r\u00fclmes\u00e2\u00eesi" ad\u0131yla kurulmu\u015ftur. \u0130\u00e7timaiy\u00e2t D\u00e2r\u00fclmes\u00e2\u00eesi'nin kurulu\u015fundan k\u0131sa bir sonra \u0130\u00e7timaiyat Mecmuas\u0131 yay\u0131nlanmaya ba\u015flanm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Ancak alt\u0131 say\u0131 \u00e7\u0131kabilen \u0130\u00e7timaiyat Mecmuas\u0131 \u00fclkemizde enstit\u00fc yay\u0131n\u0131 olarak \u00e7\u0131kan ilk dergi olmaktad\u0131r. \u0130\u00e7tim\u00e2iy\u00e2t Mecmuas\u0131'n\u0131n ser\u00fcveni ile \u00fclkemizde sosyolojinin ser\u00fcveni ortak \u00e7izgiler ta\u015f\u0131maktad\u0131r. Ortak \u00e7izginin en belirgin y\u00f6n\u00fc gerek Enstit\u00fcn\u00fcn gerekse Derginin zaman zaman kesintilere u\u011fram\u0131\u015f olmas\u0131d\u0131r. Her ikisinin ikinci ortak \u00f6zelli\u011fi ise \u00e7e\u015fitli zamanlardaki kesintilere ra\u011fmen s\u00fcreklilik g\u00f6stermeleridir.

T\u00fcrk sosyolojisinin resm\u00ee nitelikteki bu ilk s\u00fcreli yay\u0131n\u0131, \u0130\u00e7tim\u00e2iy\u00e2t Mecmuas\u0131 1917'de 6 say\u0131 yay\u0131nlanabilmi\u015ftir. \u0130\u00e7tim\u00e2iy\u00e2t D\u00e2r\u00fclmes\u00e2\u00eesi'nin faaliyetlerini durdurmak zorunda kalmas\u0131n\u0131n ard\u0131ndan dergi yay\u0131n\u0131 da kesilmi\u015ftir. \u0130\u00e7tim\u00e2iy\u00e2t D\u00e2r\u00fclmes\u00e2\u00eesi'nin, Hilmi Ziya \u00dclken'in \u00e7abas\u0131yla yeniden a\u00e7\u0131l\u0131\u015fndan sonraki ad\u0131yla Sosyoloji Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc'n\u00fcn \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 da kesintiye u\u011fram\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bu son kesinti ise 1980 sonras\u0131nda Y\u00d6K uygulamas\u0131n\u0131n ba\u015flamas\u0131, bu addaki yeni \u00fcniversiteler kanununun y\u00fcr\u00fcrl\u00fc\u011fe girmesi ile olmu\u015ftur. Y\u00d6K \u00fcniversiteler b\u00fcnyesindeki b\u00fct\u00fcn enstit\u00fcleri kapatarak onlar\u0131n yerine ara\u015ft\u0131rmamerkezlerini a\u00e7m\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Sosyoloji Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc de Y\u00d6K'le birlikte kapat\u0131lm\u0131\u015f, yerine Sosyoloji Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi a\u00e7\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Sosyoloji Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi a\u00e7\u0131lm\u0131\u015f, ancak sorumlulu\u011fu uzun d\u00f6nem sosyoloji d\u0131\u015f\u0131 b\u00f6l\u00fcmlere verilmi\u015ftir. Bu y\u00fczden Y\u00d6K uygulamas\u0131 ba\u015flad\u0131ktan sonra uzunca bir s\u00fcre Sosyoloji Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi faaliyette bulunamam\u0131\u015ft\u0131r.

Sosyoloji Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi kar\u015f\u0131la\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7e\u015fitli g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fcklere ve bu g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fckler sonucu g\u00f6r\u00fclen kesintilere, kapat\u0131lma isteklerine kar\u015f\u0131l\u0131k \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131 s\u00fcrd\u00fcrmeyi ba\u015farm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Gerek kendi ba\u015f\u0131na gerekse ortakl\u0131k yapabilece\u011fi disiplinlerle i\u015fbirli\u011fi i\u00e7inde Sosyoloji Ara\u015ft\u0131rma Merkezi'nin yapt\u0131\u011f\u0131 \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar ve yay\u0131nlar bulunmaktad\u0131r.
