Whoever disbelieves in Taghat and believes in

Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy

handholdthatwillneverbreak(2:256).

Firstly:TheMeaningoftheTwoTestimonies

1. The meaning of the testimony that none has the

righttobeworshippedexceptAllah(Laailahailla
Allah)istobelieveandconfess thatnonehasthe
right to be worshipped except Allah, and abiding
and acting by that. Therefore, (no god) is
negationfortherighttobeworshippedforother
than Allah no matter who it is, (except Allah) is
affirmation for the right to be worshipped for
Allahalone.

Thus, the meaning of this statement in summary

is: None has the right to be worshipped except
Allah.Andthepredicateof(none- )mustbe
estimated as: right to be (worshipped) and it is
notallowedtoestimateitas:exist,becausethisis
contrary to the reality. Since, there are many
othergodsthatarefoundbesideAllah.Therefore,
it necessitates that the worship of these things is
the worship for Allah, and this is from the worst
of falsehood, and this is from the way of the
people of Wahdatul Ujood (The Unity of
Existence), those are from the worst disbeliever
ofpeopleoftheearth.

2. The meaning of the testimony that Muhammad

sallallahu alayhe wa sallam is the Messenger of
Allah is to know inwardly and outwardly that he
is slave of Allah and His Messenger to all people,
and the action by the requirement of that from
obeyinghiminwhatheordered,believinghimin
what he informed, avoiding what he forbade and
warned against, and not to worship Allah except
withwhathelegislated.

Secondly:ThePillarsoftheTwoTestimonies

1. None has the right to be worshipped except

Allah: There are two pillars for it and they are:
Negation and affirmation. So, the first pillar is
negation (laa ilaha): it negates shirk in all of its
forms,andthedisbeliefisobligatoryinallthatis
worshipped beside Allah. The second pillar is
affirmation (illa Allah): It is affirming that none
has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and
theactionbythatisobligatory.

The meaning of these two pillars came in many

verses like His, the Most High, saying: Whoever
disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah,
then he has grasped the most trustworthy
handhold that will never break. And Allah is
All-Hearer, All-Knower (2:256). So, His saying:
(Whoever disbelieves in Taghut) it is the
meaning of the first pillar (laa ilaha). And His
saying: (Believes in Allah) it is the meaning of
thesecondpillar(illaAllah).

2. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah: There are

two pillars for it and they are our saying: His
slave and His messenger. And these two negate
exaggeration and negligence with regard to his
rightsallallahualayhewasallam.Thus,heisHis
slaveandHismessenger.Heisthemostcomplete
amongst the creation with regard to these two
honorableattributes.

And the meaning of slave is: the owned slave,

meaningthatheisacreatedmanfromthatwhich
man is created; whatever they go through, he
goes through it as well. As He, the Most High,
said: Say, I am only a man like you (18:110).
And indeed he sallallahu alayhe wa sallam
fulfilled the rights of worship, and Allah praised
him for that as well. He, the Most High, said: Is
not Allah Sufficient for His slave? (39:36), All
praise and thanks are Allah's, Who has sent
down to His slave (Muhammad sallallahu
alayhe wa sallam) the Book (the Quraan), and
has not placed therein any crookedness
(18:1), Glorified (and Exalted) is He (Allah)
[above all that (evil) they associate with Him]
Who took His slave (Muhammad sallallahu
alayhe wa sallam) for a journey by night from
Al-MasjidAl-Haram(atMakkah)(17:1).

And the meaning of Messenger is: the one being

senttoallpeoplewiththeinvitationtoAllahasa
giverofgladtidingandwarning.

Thirdly:ConditionsoftheTwoTestimonies

First:ConditionsofLaailahaillaAllah

It is necessary that there are conditions to the

testimonyofLaailahaillaAllah,andtheyareseven.It
does not benefit its testifier except by meeting them
andtheseareinbrief:

1. First Condition: The knowledge, meaning the

knowledge of its meaning, its intend, and what it
negates and what it affirms as oppose to the
ignoranceofthat.He,theMostHigh,said:Except
for those who bear witness to the truth while
they know (the facts about the oneness of
Allah)(43:86).Meaning:(Witness)thatthereis
none that has the right to be worshipped except
Allah, (While they know) by their heart what
their tongues bore witnessed to. Therefore, if he
pronounced it while he does not know its
meaning, it would not benefit him because he
doesnotbelieveinwhatitmeans.

2. SecondCondition:Thecertaintythatitstestifier
is certain about what it means. Therefore, if he
were in doubt with regard to what it means, it
would not benefit him. He, the Most High, said:
Onlythosearethebelieverswhohavebelieved
in Allah and His Messenger, and afterward
doubtnot(49:15).Thus,ifheisindoubt,heisa
hypocrite. The Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa
sallam said: Whoever you meet behind this
wall bears witness that there is none that has
the right to be worshipped except Allah while
hisheartiscertainaboutit,thengivehimglad
tidingoftheparadise(SahihAl-Bukhari).Asa
result, whoevers heart is not certain about it
thenhedoesnotdeservetoentertheparadise.

3. Third Condition: The acceptance to what this

statementrequiresfromworshippingAllahalone
and leaving the worship of that which beside
Him.Therefore,whoeversaiditwhilehedoesnot
accept that and does not comply by that then he
isfromthoseregardingwhomHe,theMostHigh,
said:Truly,whenitwassaidtothem:nonehas
the right to be worshipped but Allah, they
puffedthemselvesupwithpride(i.e.deniedit).

And (they) said: Are we going to abandon our

gods for the sake of a mad poet? (37:35-36).
And this is the condition of the graves
worshippers because they say: (There is none
that has the right to be worshipped Allah) while
they do not leave the worship of the graves. As a
result,theydonotacceptthemeaningofthereis
none that has the right to be worshipped except
Allah.

4. Forth Condition: The obedience to what it

denotes.He,theMostHigh,said:Andwhosoever
submitshisface(himself)toAllah,whileheisa
Muhsin (good-doer), then he has grasped the
mosttrustworthyhandhold(LailahaillAllah)
(31:22).

5. Fifth Condition: The truthfulness and it is that

he says this statement honestly by his heart.
Therefore, if he says it with his tongue while he
doesnotbelieveinitstruthfulnesswithhisheart
thenheisahypocriteandliar.He,theMostHigh,
said: And of mankind, there are some
(hypocrites) who say: We believe in Allah and
the Last Day, while in fact they believe not.
They (think to) deceive Allah and those who
believe, while they only deceive themselves,
and perceive (it) not! In their hearts is a
disease(ofdoubtandhypocrisy)andAllahhas
increased their disease. A painful torment is
theirsbecausetheyusedtotelllies(2:10).

6. SixthCondition:Thesincerityanditispurifying
the action from all blemish of the shirk such that
he does not intend by his saying covetousness
regarding the adornments of the world neither
showing off nor fame; due to what is in the
authentic hadith from the hadith of Uthbaan radi
Allahu anhu who said: Indeed Allah has
forbiddenthehellfireforonewhosaysthereis
none that has the right to be worshipped
except Allah, seeking by that only the Face of
Allah(SahihAl-Bukhari&Muslim).

7. Seventh Condition: The love for this statement,

to what it indicates, and for its people (from the
Jinn and Human) as required by it. He, the Most
High,said:Andofmankindaresomewhotake
(for worship) others besides Allah as rivals (to
Allah). They love them as they love Allah. But
those who believe, love Allah more (than
anything else) (2:165). So, the people of (Laa
ilahaillaAllah)loveAllahwithasincerelove,and
the people of shirk love Him and love other than
Him alongside Him, and this negates the
requirementof(LaailahaillaAllah).

Second:ConditionsofMuhammadRasulAllah

1. The acknowledgement of his message and

believinginitinwardlyintheheart.

2. The pronouncement of that, and the

acknowledgement of it outwardly with the
tongue.

3. The following of him such that one acts by what

he sallallahu alayhe wa sallam came with from
the truth and to leave what he forbade from the
falsehood.

4. Trusting him regarding what he informed from

thehiddenpastandfuture(events).

5. Loving him more than loving oneself, wealth,

children,parents,andallthepeople.

6. Forwarding his saying over the saying of

everyoneelseandactingbyhissunnah.
