Hypermedia tools for authoring

Summary
In this paper we investigate the capabilities of hypermedia technologies and their
use in educational contexts and particularly for authoring activities.
We define the informal specifications of an authoring environment based on an
hypermedia system, which allows to store, to retrieve and to browse all the
information produced during the courseware life-cycle (texts, pictures, and so
on).
In particular, we describe the hypermedia network structure supporting the
multimedia courseware production process, the authoring tools which manipulate
this network, the navigation criteria and the author interface model. In addition,
we discuss some delivery aspects, related to ‘open’ and ‘guided’ navigation in the
network.
