LESSON 13: Jesus in the Eucharist

Main Parts of the Mass:

1. LITURGY OF THE WORD 2. LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

THE GREAT SACRIFICE

Luke 22: 19

Then He took the bread, said the blessing, broke it and gave it to them saying, This is my body, which

will be given for you, do

this in memory of me.

This is my body which will be given to you.. This is my blood, which will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven.

Jesus sacrificed His own life by dying on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.

After the Liturgy of the Word, The Liturgy of the Eucharist follows. And this is where the most important parts of the Mass happen.

Offertory
This part symbolizes that we are offering
ourselves to God.

Consecration
By the power of the Holy Spirit, the bread and wine turn into body and blood of Jesus .

Lords Prayer
As one community, the people pray together the prayer which Jesus taught Himself to ask for the forgiveness of their sins and for them to be able to forgive others too.

Communion
The community receives Jesus through the bread and wine that they eat and drink.

The bread and wine becomes Jesuss body and blood through the power of the Holy Spirit. They are the signs of Jesus sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins.

Today, the priests obey Jesuss words.

(Do this in memory of me.)

They repeat His words and actions during the Holy Mass. This part is called the

CONSECRATION.

At this part of the Mass, Catholics believe that the bread and wine become Jesus Himself. This is the most solemn part of the Mass.

Do this in memory of me.

What does it mean? Does it only mean that we just have to repeat what Jesus did during The Last Supper?

We live out what we heard and what we received when we attended the Mass. We make ourselves present to Jesus, and we make Him present in us.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT: 1. What are the parts of the Liturgy of the Eucharist? 2. What are we called to do during these parts of the Mass? 2. What happens and what do we do during each part? 3. Why is consecration the most solemn part of the Holy Mass? 4. What does Do this in memory of me means?
