What Do Chickens eat?
Corn, barley, soya, wheat... Rich in energy and protein, grain makes up the basicfeed given to all chickens sold on the market. The expression 'grain-fed chicken' thus applies to all chicken meat!For specialized products, read labels and search for certified products.
Chicken - A Nutritious Choice!
Canada's Food Guide (CFG) recommends that you eat 2 or 3 portionsof meat or meat substitutes per day. Lean meats and poultry should be selected as often as possible. In addition tobeing an excellent source of protein, vitamins and minerals, chicken contains less fat than most other meats. Welove chicken for the taste... and for our health!

Presto - a dish worthy of the corner bistro. Perfectfor supper with friends or a quiet evening at home.
Preparation: 15 minutesCooking: 40 minutesServes: 4
2 Tbsp olive oil 30 mL1/2 tsp butler 2 mL1 onion, chopped 1
8 chicken drumsticks 8or 4 chicken legs withoutback (2 1/2 Ib / 1.2 kg)
1/2 cup chicken stock 125 mL4 cloves garlic, minced 4to taste thyme, salt and pepper to tastehot, cooked pasta
1. Preheat oven to 375° F ( 190° C).2. Heat the oil and butter in a skillet. Add the onion andchicken and brown the chicken on all sides. Stir in thechicken stock, scraping any bits of chicken off the bottomof the skillet.3. Put the chicken in a large oven-proof casserole dish.Sprinkle the garlic over the chicken and season gener-ously with thyme, salt and pepper. Pour the cooking juices over the chicken.4. Cover the casserole dish and bake, basting often withthe pan juices, for 40 minutes, or until a meat thermo-meter inserted into each piece reads 170° F (77° C).5. Serve the chicken and pan juices over hot pasta alongwith seasonal vegetables.
