1. Phenytoin Classification: Central Nervous system drug Indication: Tonic-clonic and psychomotor seizures Side effects: GI disturbances.

Ataxia, slurred speech, dizziness, Nursing Management: Advice the patient to take drug as prescribed. Inform the patient that urine may turn pink or red or brown with medication. 2. Phenobarbital Classification: Central Nervous system drug Indication: Short treatment for insomnia; long term for tonic-clonic and cortical focal seizures. Side effects: dizziness, headache, hangover, hypotension, bradycardia Nursing Management: Advice the patient to change position slowly to prevent orthostatic hypotension. Tell the patient to avoid driving. 3. Diazepam Classification: Central Nervous system drug Indication: Symptomatic relief of anxiety, agitation, tension Side effects: Blurred vision, paradoxical reactions Nursing Management: Inform the patient that drug may be taken with food. Instruct the patient to remain in supine position for 30 minutes after the injection. 4. Midazolam Classification: Central Nervous system drug Indication: Sleep disturbances, insomnia Side effects: Amnestic episodes. Nursing Management: Inform the patient that drug may cause amnesia. Instruct the patient to avoid alcohol or other depressants for 24 hours after taking the drug.

5. Morphine Classification: Analgesics, Muscle relaxants

Indication: Relief of moderate to severe or acute and chronic pain. Renal and intestinal colic. Cancer Side effects: Allergic reactions. Urinary retention. Gastrointestinal Disturbances. Nursing Management: Warn the patient about performing activities without assistance. Caution patient to avoid CNS depressants (alcohol, sedative) for atleast 24 hrs after taking this drug. 6. Nalbuphine Classification: Analgesics, muscle relaxant Indication: Relief of moderate severe pain, surgical anesthesia Side effects: Sedation, drowsiness, sweating, dry mouth and dizziness Nursing Management: Instruct the patient to change position slowly to prevent orthostatic hypotension. Teach the patient to turn, cough breathe deeply after surgery to prevent actelectasis. 7. Oxytocin Classification: Genitourinary drug Indication: Improvement of uterine contraction. Side effects: seizures, hypotension, hypertension, Nursing Management: Instruct the patient to report increase blood loss, abdominal cramps, and foul smelling lochia 8. Demerol Classification: Analgesics Indication: Obstetric pain, Anesthesia Side effects: Sweating, nausea and vomiting, dizziness Nursing Management: Tell patient to report severe constipation, s/s of respiratory depression 9. Adenosine Classification: Cardiovascular drug Indication: Used in BCNU treatment. Non-invasive assessment of patients with suspected coronary artery disease Side effects: Facial flushing, headache, chest pain, hypotension

Nursing Management: Instruct the patient to avoid caffeine. Instruct the patient to rise from sitting to standing slowly to prevent orthostatic hypotension

Levophed Classification: Adrenergic, vasopressor Indication: Cardiac arrest, acute or profound hypotension, septic shock Side effects: bradyarrythmia, hypertension Nursing Management: Instruct patient to report s/s of extravasation 11. Naloxone Classification: Antidotes Indication: Narcotic overdose, post-op narcotic depression Side effects: tachycardia, increase BP, cardiac arrest, pulmonary edema Nursing Management: Instruct the patient to report adverse reaction 12. Haloperidol Classification: Central Nervous system drug Indication: Management for tourette disorders Side effects: hypotension, constipation, blurred vision Nursing Management: Advise patient to avoid use of alcohol and other depressants 13. Chlorpromazine Classification: Antipsychotic Indication: Bipolar disorder, problem behavior(severe) schizophrenia Side effects: Orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, dizziness Nursing Management: Advise patient to use sunscreen and avoid tanning beds. Patient should avoid activities requiring mental alertness. 14. Budesonide Classification: Anti-inflammatory, endocrine metabolic agent Indication: asthma, crohns disease, ulcerative colitis

Side effects: headache, nausea, diarrhea, epistaxis Nursing Management: Instruct the patient to avoid exposure to chicken pox and measles during therapy. Instruct the patient to discontinue if inhalation powder causes bronchospasm.

15. Maalox Classification: Antiflatulent Indication: Excessive upper gastrointestinal gas Side effects: diarrhea(mild) nausea and vomiting Nursing Management: Advise the patient that drug works best when used after meals and at bedtime.
