POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE (PETE)
:- PETE is one the most recycledplastic. It finds usage in various bottles like that of soda and cooking oil, etc.
HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE)
:- HDPE is generally used in detergentbottles and in milk jugs.
POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC)
:- PVC is commonly used in plastic pipes, furniture, water bottles, liquid detergent jars etc.
LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (LDPE)
:- LDPE finds its usage in dry cleaningbags, food storage containers etc.
:- PP is commonly used in bottle caps and drinking straws.
:- PS is used in cups, plastic tableware etc.
This category of plastics include those plastics which are different from thesix aforesaid types of plastic. These plastics are usually used in food containers and inTupperware. Thus it is evident from the above classification and wide usage domain the vast role played byplastic in shaping the day to day human life. So here an honest effort has been made to gain some
insights of this growing industry in India with the help of Michael Porter’s Five Forces Model &
Value Net Analysis.
OVERVIEW OF THE INDIAN PLASTIC INDUSTRY
The Plastics Industry in India has made significant development since its inception in1957 byproducing Polystyrene .The chronology
polymer manufacture in India is as under:-
1959~~Low Density Poly ethylene (LDPE)
1961~~Poly Vinyl Chloride(PVC)
1968~~High Density Poly Ethylene(HDPE)
1978~~PolypropyleneThough exact figures are not available after 1978 but latter and subsequent years followedtremendous growth in plastic both in variety and features. Indian entrepreneurs have been longmotivated by the potential market to acquire technical expertise & knowledge, achieve highquality standards and build capacities in various sectors of the growing plastic industry.Significant developments in the petrochemical industry and plastic machinery industry have ledthe plastic processing industries ti develop capabilities to cater both domestic as well as overseasmarket.
