Papers should be
properly referenced
. This means (at least) that words borrowedfrom another source should be signaled by quotation marks and footnotes; and thatfootnotes should also be used to flag
ideas and paraphrases
from other sources, evenwhen they appear in your paper in your own words. This holds even when the sourcein question is a widely available reference work such as Wikipedia.
