During this student teaching practicum, I had the opportunity to teach a grade 6 class. Thisstudent teaching position lasted 6 weeks and gave me an opportunity to gain experience whileworking directly under the supervision of a qualified teacher. University assessments were con-ducted by my professors during my lessons in which I received wonderful feedback.

Logo creation, pamphlet design, multiple advertising strategies (i.e - radio interviews, news-paper interviews), scheduling of sessions, handling of registrations and funds, created alter-nate plans for weather conditions, children supervision, booked several excursions for the chil-dren (i.e - bee farm, canola fields, tours of museum and other educationally rich places), differ-entiated lessons depending on age group attending during the week, child safety, Aboriginaland culturally rich and sensitive materials, games, and land based activities.
 Trained new employees/team leaders during the 2nd - 4th year of Into the Wild
 Trained Junior leaders (students from Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute High School)
Contacted guest speakers such as local artists and elders to share skills, talents and presen-tations, share stories. Other local people were invited to Into the Wild to share life experienceand new activities such as learning to jig, how to set traps and other cultural experiences

Kelsey Kids Camp was a program designed and implemented as a fun place for children whostruggled with math and language arts to go to before the school year started. My position during the Recreation and Read program was to guide teens in their journey tobecoming respected mentors for the children who attended the program, help plan and imple-ment activities that students would be responsible for both teaching and playing games withthe kids, provide and prepare snacks for children participants.

Hollywood Convenience was a store I purchased with a business partner. This business wasowned and run in The Pas, Manitoba for 6 years. This opportunity taught me how to create andfollow through on a business plan. I also learned several management skills, along with order-ing, receiving, and stocking inventory. It allowed me to delegate responsibilities to employees,learn about managing business finances, do payroll, and learn new organizational systems aswell as how to program POS systems and do inventory control. This experience is invaluable tothe person I have become.

KRC summer camp was the first summer camp experience I had. I knew that I loved workingwith children, but this job presented new challenges that I now value as an educator. Duringthis position in the summer months, I was responsible for a child with special needs. I learnedto be patient, calm, understanding and empathetic both when it came to this child, as well aswith the other children participating in the camp. I learned to be fast, and think on my feet,creative and try new ideas as a means of keeping this child entertained and happy, problemsolve when things didn’t go according to plan and most of all I learned to respect each individ-ual child for their self, the way they are, and for what they each taught me.
