1. The Journal of Media Literacy Publishes Special Issue on Globaloria The Journal of Media Literacy has published a special report on Globaloria. If you have not received your hard copy, please email us and we'll send it to you! The Workshops efforts to increase media literacy through innovative education programs, such as Globaloria, were recognized by the National Telemedia Council in the publication, Globaloria: Students Making Game Media for Literacy and Learning. The Journal editors identify Globaloria as an example of a well-designed, researched, and implemented experiment, going beyond the status of a simple classroom project and scaling into a model for major change that naturally encourages the critical thinking skills that are the ingredients of media literacy.

2. Getting Smart Names Globaloria as Digital Learning Leader In the recent white paper by Getting Smart visionaries Tom VanderArk and Carri Schneider, How Digital Learning Contributes to Deeper Learning, Globaloria is cited as a leading digital learning tool that creates opportunities for deeper learning by fostering critical thinking skills and pushing the boundaries of the traditional student role. Boys & Girls Clubs Honors World Wide Workshop On December 7, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley honored the World Wide Workshop with the Community Partner of the Clubs award at the annual It Just Takes One luncheon. Dr. Idit Harel Caperton accepted the award at the appreciation luncheon in San Jose, CA. This is an incredible honor for us, said Idit in her acceptance speech. Our partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs is demonstrating the power of digital and media literacy learning to engage youth and prepare them to be active and engaged citizens. It is our duty to make sure every child in the Valley and the nation has access to opportunities like Globaloria that expand their horizons and prepare them for success today and tomorrow.

Microsoft Features Globaloria in Community Innovation Magazine, Catalyst Microsoft's Catalyst magazine featured Globaloria as a resultsproven solution to engage students in skill-building STEM education. The article outlines the Globaloria curriculum and its effectiveness at improving student cognitive learning and computational abilities, and supports the tenet that coding is the "new literacy." 5. World Wide Workshop Celebrates Computer Science Education Week The World Wide Workshop is an active supporter of national Computer Science Education Week (@CSEdWeek), which this year was recognized December 9-15. In collaboration with many, including a number of Workshop partners, such as National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT), Google, Microsoft, and others, to elevate K-12 computer science education, eliminate misconceptions of computing, and share benefits of computer science education for youth. The Workshop

contributed to this national movement by engaging the network of thousands of Globaloria students and educators in signing the CSEdWeek Pledge and participating in events and conversations around the country. CS Education Week is an important reminder that Globaloria students are among the less than 10% of the nations youth with access to computer science learning. Leadership in innovation relies on universal CS fluency. Together, we can make sure every youth, no matter their zip code, will be among the next generation of entrepreneurs, leaders and change agents, commented Amber Oliver, VP of Partnerships & Operations for the Workshop.

Girls Who Code participants and founder, Reshma Saujani, appeared with NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing recipients at the CSEdWeek kickoff event at Google NYC to share how these organizations helped them realize their potential in computer science and programming.
