LO2 Apply knowledge of grammatical rules at word and phrase levels. SSAB Students should be able to use adverbs of manner to modify action verbs. This activity will help to introduce the topic of adverbs of manner to students. The class game serves as a warm-up activity to let students act out the different verbs + adverbs combinations so that they can have a brief idea of what adverbs do in real life. This mini role play and dramatisation activity allow teachers to integrate the practice of grammatical structures with listening, speaking and representing skills. By allowing students to be involved in the dramatisation, it will help reinforce pupils use of adverbs of manner to modify action verbs. After the activity, the teacher will proceed to introduce the metalanguage to the class by asking for the word class of the two different groups of words, namely verbs and adverbs. As a continuation for the lesson, the teacher will then proceed deeper into the grammar lesson by introducing other kinds of adverbs, such as adverbs of place and time.

The lesson follows a typical PPP approach (Present, Practice, Produce), but the 5 minutes activity serves as a warm-up activity to hook students interest to the grammar lesson. After the warm-up activity, the teacher will present the different kinds of adverbs to the class; students will practice it on some worksheets and produce it in the classroom in controlled yet meaningful exchanges with their neighbours.
