THE COMPANY
PHENIX AVIATION, S.L. was created in 2006 with the idea to design an advanced gyroplane concept based on high technology construction and specifically intended for multi-purpose missions. The team is formed by qualified staff with a vast experience in gyroplane aeronautical design and projection, particularly in modern high technology manufacturing procedures. The PHENIX is the culmination of many years of development and optimisation of the final product. The project has been extensively tested to meet all the requirements for which it was designed. The design is focussed on the following details: - Maximum empty weight of 300 kgs. - Ballistic recovery parachute - Meet most demanding certification rules High inertia rotor blades Hydraulic pre-rotator Big cargo compartment Full composite construction Forward mounted engine Side by side seating Wide and comfortable cabin

THE
PHENIX
The PHENIX is made out as a full composite carbon fibre monocoque fuselage construction, reinforced with high density sandwich panels, bulkheads and ribs. Structural stress is carried by a central tunnel box incorporating strong attachments for engine, mast and undercarriage. Composite construction has a big range of benefits in comparison to typical metallic structures. It allows the creation of smooth, streamlined and aero-dynamical forms. Carbon fibre laminates are very strong yet extremely light in weight. These structures will not rust, crack or bend and have an unlimited time span. This is very important to reduce maintenance and operation costs. In this way, the aircraft will spend more time flying, making it more profitable. Unlike complicated metallic aircraft, this unique type of construction simplifies the manufacturing process, not requiring long production times. This is also an important cost reduction feature for the final product. Maintenance and inspection, does not require highly qualified staff and repairs of minor damages can be relatively and easily done, without having to send the aircraft to expensive official factory dealers. One of the major advantages of our design is the possibility to modify the Phenix frame to any particular mission requirement, adapting it to specific and multiple tasks. We can install a wide range of engines in different horsepower configurations, from 100 up to 240 hp, depending on the customers needs. Also, different lengths of rotor blades are available for each specific operation.
We have paid special attention to crew comfort carefully studying the ergonomics when designing the cabin, to offer a relaxed work station, specially for long periods of flying. The specially UV and IR treated windshields keep cabin temperatures low when flying in hot conditions. The cargo compartment is located at the rear and separate from the cabin and is accessible by two lateral doors. It is spacious and will accommodate diverse material up to maximum weight of 25 kgs. aero.phenix@gmail.com 3

CONCEPT FEATURES
Our main objective when we designed the PHENIX, was the creation of a safe, stable and easy operational gyroplane. The concept had to be radical in order to improve the limited capacity of the actual gyroplanes. Most actual gyroplanes have a rear mounted engine in pusher configuration. This is an inheritance from designs of the late fifties and is not the ideal setup. We have gone back to the original idea of Juan de la Cierva, inventor of the gyroplane, with a forward mounted engine in tractor configuration, a more logical setup in modern aeronautical design. This creates a strong stabilising effect on the gyroplane and optimises safety through a completely neutral attitude of the aircraft in all conditions. The result is a very stable aircraft, safe and easy to fly, requiring less workload on the pilot. These are some of the positive aspects of a tractor configuration in comparison to the usual pusher: THRUST: Propeller receives clean air producing more advancing power. PERFORMANCE: Is able to take-off in a shorter distance compared to any other gyroplane. STABILITY: Thrust line goes directly through centre of gravity, ensuring a neutral attitude in all flying conditions. SAFETY: In the event of a survivable crash landing, the engine and cabin compartment provide a high protection to its occupants. COOLING: Air is naturally drawn into the engine area allowing for a simple and effective cooling. MAINTENANCE: Engine cowlings are easily removable to leave engine and systems completely exposed for inspections. SAFETY FIRST: We are the first gyroplane manufacturer in the world to install a ballistic parachute as standard equipment, considering it a major contribution to gyroplane safety. The equipment consists of a canister holding a parachute attached to a small rocket device which extracts it within a second after pulling a firing handle in the cockpit. It is capable of supporting the entire aircraft and crew and can be deployed as low as 100 mts. above ground level. The aircraft will gently descent to the ground providing total survival of its occupants and the aircraft. All the expensive equipment on board will remain undamaged and recoverable. aero.phenix@gmail.com 5
Depending on the designated tasks, this aircraft can be specifically equipped to meet any demands. The instrument panel is designed in such a way that it can accommodate any kind of analogue or digital equipment including wide screen monitors. Several hard points have been integrated into the structure in order to mount different enforcement equipment such as infrared cameras, spotlights, radar, armament, etc. Due to its neutral handling characteristics, this aircraft is able to operate from non-prepared runway strips such as small local roads, countryside paths, riverbeds, etc. The transition for helicopter and fixed wing pilots to this gyroplane will not be demanding and is easily adaptable. In this way training will be less expensive. A convenient trailer considered as a mobile Control Centre is available for this aircraft. Due to the average low weight of the aircraft, the trailer can be easily boarded and the unit can be transported to remote or confined areas where it can start its mission. The Phenix can be flown in any mission with a pilot plus a tactical officer. Due to the low workload in the cabin, it is also possible to fly with just the pilot covering also the tactical role. The aircraft can be quickly adapted to different tasks with minor changes and be ready to fly for a new mission in an extremely short time period. aero.phenix@gmail.com 6
MILITARY OPERATIONS
The PHENIX can be a very effective tool for a vast number of military operations, carrying out missions up to date only performed by expensive aircrafts, at a much lower cost. It can be used playing a role in autonomous dispersed operations or even engage direct confrontation with the aid of appropriate armament. The aircraft can be covered with a Kevlar armour, capable of withstanding enemy fire, offering a high protection to the crew. Also is capable of downlinking high quality and extremely valuable real time information to enable ground commanders to plan adequate action. It is possible to install VFR/IFR avionics for Day/Night operation, integrating night vision goggles. Various mounting points are available and can be used for fitting different equipment: - Forward looking Infra Red (FLIR) cameras - Synthetic Aperture Radar - Under-body role equipment - Cameras, laser designators - 40 mm grenade launcher with belt feed - 7.62 mm light machine gun ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT - Vegetation mapping - Water management - Security, Patrolling - Fence and perimeter inspection - Anti Poaching operations - Game counts with multisensory imaging - Productivity (Biomass, trees, grass, etc.) - Nutrients - Fire detection and prevention - Erosion and scar detection - Fine scale demographics - Crop spraying
