Tekes,theNationalTechnologyAgency,isthemainfinancingorganisationforappliedandindustrialR&DinFinland.Fundingisgrantedfromthestatebudget.Tekes’primaryobjectiveistopromotethecompetitivenessofFinnishindus-tryandtheservicesectorbytechnologicalmeans.Activitiesareaimedatdi-versifyingproductionstructures,increasingproductivityandexportsandcreatingafoundationforemploymentandsocialwell-being.TekesfinancesappliedandindustrialR&DinFinlandtotheextentofnearly400millioneurosannually.TheTekesnetworkinFinlandandoverseasoffersexcellentchan-nelsforcooperationwithFinnishcompanies,universitiesandresearchinsti-tutes.

ThetechnologyprogrammesareanessentialpartoftheFinnishinnovationsystem.Theseprogrammeshaveprovedtobeaneffectiveformofcoopera-tionandnetworkingforcompaniesandtheresearchsectorfordevelopinginnovativeproductsandprocesses.Technologyprogrammespromotedevel-opmentinspecificsectorsoftechnologyorindustry,andtheresultsofthere-searchworkarepassedontobusinesssystematically.TheprogrammesalsoserveasexcellentframeworksforinternationalR&Dcooperation.Currently,35 extensive technology programmes are under way.
