Reversible Hostess Apron
Step 1: Cut Pattern Pieces
1 – 25” x 17” rectangle of patterned cotton fabric1 – 25” x 17” rectangle of muslin or solid cotton fabric3 – 4” x 44” strips of patterned cotton fabric2 pockets using fabric of choice (see pattern)
Step 2: Make and attach pockets to apron panels if desired (see pocket pattern)Step 3: Sew apron
Join 2 of the 4” x 44” strips of fabric by laying ends of fabric together (right sides together) and forming a 90 degree angle. Sew fromcorner A to corner B as shown below.Cut off excess corner.Press seams open with a warm iron. Then fold along one sideapproximately ¼ inch and press alone the entire length. This will bethe apron waistband and ties.Press the remaining strip of fabric in half lengthwise (right sidestogether). Stitch short ends and turn right side out. Press. This will beyour gathered hem.Using a wide baste stitch, gather the hem along the open end. Pinto the bottom of the front apron panel along the long side, leaving½ inch selvage on each side of the panel. Stay stitch along entirelength.Lay reverse apron panel on top, wrong sides together. Stitcharound 3 sides as shown, leaving the top of panel open. BECAREFUL not to catch ends of gathered ruffle in the stitching. Pincorners back to prevent this from happening.Turn right side out and press.Baste stitch open end where shown and gather as desired.Center waistband on reverse side of apron as shown and stitch.Turn waistband up and fold around the front panel. Press so theedges meet and the tie ends are tucked. Pin and stitch along ties.
