NEVER chamber a round until ready to shoot. NEVER leave a loaded firearm unattended. ALWAYS store unloaded firearms and ammunition in separately secured locations, so that children and untrained adults cannot gain access to them. NEVER point a firearm at anything you do not intend to shoot regardless of whether the firearm is unloaded or on safety. NEVER consume alcoholic beverages or mind altering drugs before or during the handling of firearms. If you have any safety questions concerning our products, please contact us here at Colt - 1-800-962-COLT. ALWAYS make sure that the target and the area surrounding the target are safe before shooting. NEVER rely on the firearms safety mechanism and ALWAYS abide by safety rules regardless of whether the firearm is unloaded or on safety. ALWAYS make sure the barrel of the firearm is clear of obstructions according to the safety and instruction manual. ONLY place your finger on the trigger when you are actually aiming at a safe target and have made the decision to fire. ALWAYS use the proper ammunition for your particular firearm. ALWAYS refer to the operation manual if your firearm fails to fire. NEVER alter or modify your firearm. NEVER shoot a firearm at hard surfaces or water. NEVER transport a loaded firearm and ONLY load a firearm at the destination where you intend to shoot. ALWAYS properly maintain your firearm. ONLY clean your firearm when you are absolutely sure the firearm is unloaded. NEVER climb a tree, fence or obstacle with a loaded firearm. ALWAYS wear appropriate ear and eye protection when shooting or observing.

be Lincoln may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal. This post-Civil War slogan eq eq woul woul have been music to Sam Colts would ears h he lived long enough to hear it. had Yet, even before his death at the age of 47, he knew that his invention of a weapon capable of firing without reloading was a tremendous success throughout the world. Some 19th-century historians have gone so far as to say that Sam Colts invention altered the course of history. Whatever the case, when all was said and done, no one could deny that Sam Colt had achieved both fame and fortune known to few other inventors. Sam Colts success story began with the issuance of a U.S. patent in 1836 for the Colt firearm equipped with a revolving cylinder containing five or six bullets. Colts revolver provided its user with greatly increased firepower. The Colt revolving-cylinder concept is said to have occurred to Sam Colt while serving as a seaman aboard the sailing ship Corvo. There he observed a similar principle in the workings of the ships capstan. During his leisure hours, Sam carved a wooden representation of his idea. 175 years ago, Sam Colt harnessed a dream and turned it into one of the most historically significant inventions of the modern world. Today his legacy continues.

THE 1836 COLT Paterson 5-shot revolver was the first commercial repeating firearm employing a revolving cylinder with multiple chambers aligned with a single, stationary barrel. Its design was patented by Samuel Colt on February 25, 1836, and it derived its name from being produced in Colts first plant in Paterson, New Jersey. Sam was 22. In 1845, units of the U.S. Dragoon forces and Texas Rangers engaged in fighting the Indians in Texas credited their use of Colt firearms for their great success in defeating Indian forces.

1847 Walker

U.S. WAR DEPARTMENT officials reportedly were favorably impressed with the 1836 Paterson. As a result, when the Mexican War began in 1846, Capt. Samuel H. Walker, U.S. Army, traveled east, looked up Sam Colt, and collaborated on the design of a new, more powerful revolver. The result was the 1847 Walker, the largest and most powerful black powder repeating handgun ever made. Samuel Walker carried two of his namesake revolvers in the Mexican American War.

COLT GAME CHANGER

1865 Gatling Gun

g Martin Auction s.

THE GATLING GUN is one of the best known early rapidfire weapons and a forerunner of the modern machine gun. It was used by Union forces during the Civil War, the first time it was employed in combat. The Gatling gun was designed by Dr. Richard J. Gatling in 1861 and production by Colt began shortly thereafter. Gatling wrote that he created the gun to reduce the size of armies and so reduce the number of deaths by combat and disease, and to show how futile war is. Critics point out that General George Custers legacy might have been different had he accepted the offer to use a battery of Gatling guns before his fateful day. He believed the heavy guns would impede his rapid march to the Little Big Horn.

1903 Pocket Hammerless

THE .32 ACP COLT Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless was among the first semi-automatic pistols designed by John Browning and built by Colt. Many gangsters of the pre-World War II era favored the Model 1903 because they were small and easily concealed. It is said that Al Capone kept one in his coat pocket and Bonnie Parker used one to break Clyde Barrow out of jail after smuggling it in by taping it to her thigh.

Colt SP901

OVER THE LAST century and three-quarters, Colt has had many individuals at the helm, starting with Samuel Colt. Today, Colts leadership is as powerful as ever under the direction of Lt. Gen. William M. Keys USMC (Ret.) as President and Chief Executive Officer. A decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, General Keys took the helm of the company at a critical time and General William M. Keys at Colt headquarters 2010. shepherded it through legal thicket and successfully reoriented the business back toward profit and growth. As a combat veteran and an avid shooter and collector himself, General Keys has provided the company with a leader who appreciates and understands firearms as few others do.

COLT MATCH TARGET RIFLES RIFLES FOR THE MODERN SPORTSMAN

While the Colt name is virtually synonymous with handguns, longarms were the first revolving firearms off of Sam Colts assembly line. Thats right! The first production model of any Colt was the No.1 Ring Lever Rifle. The carbine breech (attachable shoulder stocks for handguns) and Americas first slide action rifle were also part of Colts on-and-off ventures into longarms. Then in 1963, the AR-15 and M16 .223 (5.56mm) automatic rifles made Colt the small-arms sensation of modern warfare. Their unmatched accuracy, performance and durability are available in their direct descendants, the Colt semiautomatic-only sporting rifles. Theyre ideal for hunting, plinking and competition shooting. MODEL MT6400

HOW IT ALL STARTED

More than 175 years ago, an obscure young seaman, Calcutta bound, carved a model of what was destined to become the worlds most famous revolver from a block of wood. His name was Samuel Colt, and from the spark of his inventive genius, came the modern firearms of today. One would have to search diligently through the pages of history to find a more romantic and glamorous figure than Samuel Colt. His was the mind of a genius, a planner and a dreamer, all in one. His vision was not local, but worldwide. His ambition exceeded mere prosperity and power. Complete satisfaction could only be his when he had reached the pinnacle of his chosen field. His own deeds and the life he lived have immortalized him, and the products that still bear his name are a constant tribute to his ability and his resourcefulness. Samuel Colts effort to market his inventions is a record of amazing courage, ingenuity, and perseverance. That one so young in years and so handicapped by poverty and lack of prestige could prevail against such odds is one of the marvels of individual American enterprise.
