Judicial developments in the
 Ayyash et al.
case
This case relates to the attack on theformer Lebanese Prime Minister RafiqHariri and others on 14 February 2005.
Preparation for trial:
The tentative date of 25 March 2013 wasset for trial by the Pre-Trial Judge in July.On 27 September, the Defence teamssubmitted to the Pre-Trial Judge a jointmotion for urgent orders regarding trialpreparation. In their motion, theyrequested that the Pre-Trial Judge set anumber of deadlines related to disclosureand testimony by the Prosecution. Astatus conference was also held on 28September to ensure the expeditiouspreparation for trial.
Victims:
On 4 September, the Pre-Trial Judgegranted nine additional persons thestatus of victims participating in theproceedings. The nine victims will formpart of the existing group of 58 victimswhose status as victims participating inthe proceedings was recognized in adecision of the Pre-Trial Judge in May2012.
Jurisdiction and legality:
Defence counsel have appealed a rulingby the Trial Chamber (dated 27 July) that
confirmed the Tribunal’s legality and
 jurisdiction over the 14 February attack.On 14 September, the Prosecutor filed aconsolidated response to the Defenceappeals. On 19 September, counsel forMr. Badreddine filed a reply to the
Prosecutor’s consolidated response and
 on the same date, the LegalRepresentative for Victims filed hisobservations. A public hearing was heldon 1 October to allow the Defence topresent challenges to the Tribunal's jurisdiction.
Indictment:
On 18 September, the Prosecutor filed arequest to the Pre-Trial Judge to amendthe indictment. The amendments do notinclude new charges or accused.
In absentia:
Appeals were also filed by the Defenceteams against the Decision onReconsideration of the Trial in Absentiadecision (dated 1 February 2012). TheDefence counsel argue that in absentia
