ver since joining the Redmond HistoricalSociety, I am amazed at how many of us are interested in preserving our history. So many of you have come forward with great stories, photos, and volunteering time to help make ourgoals happen. Two such people are
Brad Solomon

and
Larry Nelson
. Larry has become the Society’sTV voice as he narrates the monthly
View fromHi so y,
which Brad produces. Each month, Brad selects a topic fromRedmond’s rich history that will both entertain and enlighten residents. He selects photographsthat illustrate the topic and writes a script forwhich Larry does a voice-over. With technicalmagic, Brad brings together these elements, creating a video that is shown throughout themonth on the City’s Channel 21, coordinatingwith
Patrick Hirsch
, the City Video Communications Manager. The photos come from
Naomi Hardy
’s hardwork of scanning photos that so many of youhave loaned or donated. By the way, these can beviewed in our office. She has a great love for ourcity and in keeping with the Society’s goal topreserve our history she wants to name almosteverything in the city after those who made thisthe community that it is!We hope to see you Nov. 12 and then againon Jan. 14 (No December meeting!).

he Society has its own Ken Burns and his name is Brad Solomon.Having joined the club in January 2005, Brad immediately proposedRedmond histories on video with a longer term goal of a “Ken Burns” stylefilm about our heritage. An amateur photographer since college days, he sawthis as a great opportunity to focus his attention on a very local subject.Brad and his wife, Jenny, moved to Redmond in 1986. Their daughtersfollowed, so to speak: Rachel (15) and Michelle (13).“One of our traditions was going to the Heritage Festival held atMarymoor Park every summer,” Brad says. “We were sad to see the Festivalcancelled. The photo above was taken in 2000. I guess even then history wasin my blood.”Brad has produced three short videos for the city of Redmond TV thatserve as advertising for the Society:
“Derby Days,” “School Days,”
and
he  Nokomis Club.”
He is planning on nine more to make an even dozen. When asked about his plan to create a film about Redmond, he says“The short videos are fun projects and help get out the word about theSociety. They are a bit of a detour, but all of the research for the videos is laying the groundwork for the film.”

raffic jams during the morn-ing and late afternoon hours haveincreased in frequency and intensity indowntown Redmond with the heavierpopulation and traffic flow through theCity,” Redmond Police Chief Robert Sollito observed. “The solution is thedevelopment of alternate routesbypassing the downtown area,” hesaid, “but these seem a longtime coming.”
