The adaptive reuse of the Don Valley Pressed Brick Works site will serve as a model of economic, environmental and social sustainability by blending interpretation of the site's preserved natural and industrial heritage with the sustainable development of retail and cultural venues on site. In association with Evergreen, an organization committed to urban greening and the site's redevelopment, AldrichPears developed an interpretive plan for the new Brick Works complex.

cultivate a future The old Don Valley Brick Works site near Toronto is now a model of economic, environmental and social sustainability. The sites steward, Evergreen, is a non-profit organization whose mission it is to green cities. Their goal was to build a community environmental center at Brick Works that inspires and equips visitors to live, work and play more sustainably. APA worked with Evergreen to develop a visionary masterplan for the Brick Works complex. The plan included a site-wide conceptual approach illustrated by proposed visitor experiences and focused on the sites rich interpretive resources. From its hydrology, geology and natural habitats to its industrial history as a brick factory as well as its contemporary use as a sustainable center, the site offers a wellspring of experiences. Proposed visitors experiences included a fossil dig, nature trail and interactive display of brick production.
